Fun and Challenging September 9, 2009 tldward The 4x4x4 Rubik's Cube is a great next step for those who can complete the 3x3x3. In fact, depending on how you solve the 3x3x3, the 4x4x4 can be very easy. Other than running into the Parity errors, you basically solve it like a 3x3x3. My only complaint is that it is not very durable. Because of all the moving pieces and different directions they can travel in, you have to be very careful with it or it will explode. My first one exploded because I did not have it aligned properly when I tried to turn a side. Anyway, I moving up to the 5x5x5 and would highly recommend this product.
Handle with care July 28, 2009 Richard J. Bartlett (Louisville, KY, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this cube because I taught myself to solve the 3x3 and I wanted a new challenge. It's certainly a lot of fun and really gets you thinking - if you enjoy the regular cube, you'll definitely get a kick out of this. (I've had it a couple of weeks and can now solve it but it still takes me a while. I won't be solving this in under 5 minutes for some time, methinks!)
However, it does need to be handled carefully. Although the cube is actually larger than the regular 3x3, the blocks that make up the cube are smaller and because it's 4x4, there's not single central square on each face to form a foundation. With all this in mind, you have to be careful when you turn it as the slices may not turn as smoothly as the 3x3 and a piece might go flying. That happened to me after about a week. I had to squeeze it back in again. I then found that I'd put the piece back with the incorrect orientation so I had to try and pop it out again and put it back correctly. Not easily done.
Also, yes, the stickers are more prone to start coming off - I want to say it's because the pieces are smaller but that's more a gut feeling that anything else. I think it's because the slices don't turn as smoothly as a result, so your fingers are rubbing against the edges of the pieces more - hence, the stickers are more likely to start coming away from the pieces. Just my theory.
Anyway, if you're careful with it, then give it a shot. I have no regrets yet about buying mine and am looking forward to solving the 5x5!
Rubix Cube March 27, 2009 Tamera Connella (Dry Prong, LA USA) What a blast from the past. Wonder toy!! Me and my husband played with these Rubix Cubes more than our kids do. And extremly durable. So far they have been tossed around and stepped on and just keep on taking the punch without a scratch or break to worry about. Such a fun game for the whole family. Everyone on our block wanted one after we got ours.
Not durable! March 25, 2009 Kiet A. Nguyen 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Easy to be broken apart! not very smooth to spin, not that easy to put back! I don't think that Winning Moves is the best brand of Rubik's cube! I my self recommend eastsheen's cubes as they are smaller, easier to spin and is also cheaper!
Great cube February 22, 2009 Albert Ting (Arcadia, CA USA) Retooled 4x4 cube. Great quality. Pretty fast when lubed, but it locks up ALOT. Not really recommended for speedcubing, but for casual use, it's great!
