Small screen and terrible graphics November 16, 2009

My son got it for his 4th birthday. I agree with the other reviews. The toy looks great, looks almost like a real computer but once you open it, the screen is too small and hard to read. It comes with 8 cartridges that you insert into the game slot and my 4 year old found it hard to get it out of the slot each time. Opening up the laptop is also a little difficult for tiny hands. All in all it has great potential and looks really cool but the screen size sucks.

Although I gave this a bad review initially, my son does not seem to notice the screen size and absolutely loves this toy! Even my 7 year old loves playing with it. So I am increasing the rating as the kids seem to enjoy the toy.

We got this for my daughter for her 4th birthday and she loves it. I read the reviews about the small screen - this does not bother me or her. She really likes the games (and there are many of them) and they challenge her. She loves the mouse and her own keyboard (she likes to "type"...so the word editor game is right up her alley) and that is is her "own computer like mommy and daddy". My daughter is only of the first level of games, so I do not know how the different levels are. The first level skills, however, are repetetive - which she needs. When she pushes a wrong button, it does not just buzz - it tells her the wrong answer, that it is not correct and gives her another chance at it.
When I was trying to play the games (in order to help my daughter), I felt like I was 10 again playing Atari. The graphics are old school and the screen is really dark, even though I changed the contrast. If I had known that the graphics were this unclear, I probably would not have purchased it.

I am not sure why everyone's review focused in so much on the size of the screen. If you compare it to most of the toy laptops, they almost all have tiny screens...this is not a real computer...it is for kids..and the kids I know don't seem to care if the screen is tiny or not. That being said, I think this toy is great!!! My son (age 5) plays with it a lot and my other 2 children (ages 8 and 7) fight for a turn themselves. It is s great toy for on the go...you don't need the mouse and it comes off the computer for traveling. I am pleased with this purchase.

Very colorful and suit the age group. The educational aspect is very good but the screen is too small. Can really inprove on the screen.

I purchased this for my 5 year old for Christmas. He loves the fact that it has a mouse and a case to carry it in, and it opens just like a real laptop. The problem is that the graphics are so bad that you can only see the screen in a particular light. I really wanted to keep this (I'm taking it back) because it is a learning tool, I just think if you can't see the screen, it's pretty hard to use. We also have the Leapster Learning game system and with the Leapster the Graphics are awesome. If looking for a learning tool and durablility I would go with the Leapster.
