If I can give no zero star, this will get it! Buy a real digital camera January 4, 2010 A. Juntunen 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have never felt strongly negative about a product since this purchase. Software is simple, but poorly designed and has ho-hum features for a "toy gadget" and different from what was described, takes poor pictures, and the video is shockingly unusable. False advertising is what I can say. The description says it takes videos and digital pictures, yes, if it works. You can't even tell if this takes colored or black and white as it is that bad!!! The video can't even be downloaded on the software...many hassles. It doesn't help that I ordered two, and returned the other one because of how it was "not as described". Sadly, I mistakenly returned the cheaper purchased price, and kept the item with higher invoice...now I can really say I felt "robbed"...
Lots of fun for an 8 yr old December 26, 2009 Angela (CA, USA) I bought this for my 8 yr. old for Christmas and since she's gotten it, she hasn't been able to put it down. The camera is made out of plastic and feels very lightweight. It probably won't be able to withstand alot of banging or slamming but if handled properly, it'll work just fine. It has no playback so you can't see the image after you've taken it. My 8 yr old didn't seem to care about that feature. It is basically just a simple point and shoot camera with no other features. For $10, I'm just fine with it since even one-time use cameras cost just as much and they're just as basic.
What I do wish this camera has is a flash. It does not come with one but I was surprised that some pictures actually came out ok despite the lack of lighting indoors. The picture quality is, as I had expected, low quality BUT it is just enough for an 8 yr. old who is so excited to be able to take her own pictures with her own camera. Again, for the $10 I paid, it is well worth it. Remember also that younger kids will take blurrier pictures due to unsteady hands so it's not always the camera's fault. :) I also snapped some outdoor pics and they came out very well. (I will upload a couple of indoor shots to this product page as examples of camera quality.) As for capacity, it takes a total of 26 photos before it is full.
Unlike other users, I had no problems whatsoever with the software. I recommend installing the software before you actually hook the camera up to your computer and after I did that, everything went smoothly. It recognized the camera with ease and downloaded all the images without a problem. You have to retrieve the photos through the journal software because it allows them to be dragged and dropped straight into the journal layout. The journal software is ok. It has border designs, stamps/stickers, text tool and a drawing/painting tool. I would have liked to see more choices for their borders and stamps/stickers but my 8 yr old is happy with what they have. Aside from the journal section, there is also a calendar, "Fun Stuff" section for poetry writing, video library and making simple friendship, birthday and thinking of you cards.
All in all, I think this product met my expectations and probably exceeded my 8 yr old's expectations. It is her favorite toy at the moment.
"Video Journal" Not Girl Tech Video Journal...for boys...NOT December 20, 2009 T. L. Townsend (Bootheel, NM) I purchased this item for grandkids...no problem for the teen girls with the Girl Tech Video Journal.
BUT, the ones I bought for the boys was just labeled Video Journal and what they got was Girl Tech. What is up with that. You know the boys would love to use it and make picture on the computer to share or not share, but will they use it if it is labeled Girl Tech Video Journal? NOT. Totally not described properly. Not what do we do. A very unhappy grandmother of 11 kids.
Very Fun March 21, 2009 J. Potrykus 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this for my niece for her 9th birthday because hse has been wanting one. She really enjoys it. She really likes that she can take pictures and add them to her journal online. If you have a daughter that likes to keep a journal this would be a great product for her, because the fun thing is they can not only write about there day but also put a picture in there journal about there day.
