Editorial Review
With a trendy design sure to please tech-savvy tweens, the VideoNow Color FX System provides portable entertainment in a kid-friendly format. Clad in a tinted, transparent plastic case that offers a peek at the circuitry inside, the VideoNow Color FX player stylishly spins high quality PVDs (personal video discs) specifically designed for this player. A compact screen measuring 1-1/2 by 2 inches sits on the outside of the player, which works much like a portable compact disc player. Pop open the lid to load a disc, then control playback with four well-placed buttons (play/pause, stop, next, and previous) surrounding the screen. Great for on-the-go entertainment, this durable handheld video player features a self-contained speaker, adjustable volume and contrast settings, and jacks for DC power and headphones (adapter and headphones sold separately). Coordinating carrying cases, car adaptors, and a wide variety of PVD-formatted shows from Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and 4KidsTV are available separately. A next-generation version of the player that was awarded Best Toy at the Ultimate Toy Awards Show, the VideoNow Color FX requires three AA batteries (not included) to go for a spin. --Heather Lyndon

Product was on time. Was not in packaging, but I was able to package it well enough to give as a gift.

4 out of 5 stars Pink Video Now Player   September 28, 2008
Terri (Crescent City, California United States)
My daughter got this for a gift last week and loves it. It has a tiny screen compared to the clamshell version (XP), and for the technology now a days, the screen isn't clear, but has black dots throughout the picture screen. We already owned several of these video players, even the first black and white original version. This player is clear, and you can watch the parts move inside the player casing. Kind of cool really. We have a lot of the PVC discs, so she just loaded her TV up and watched what she wanted, on the go. These are made for children, not adults, so kids really don't mind the small screen, or the fact that it's not sharp like a real DVD player. So far out of all these players, the black and white version has lasted the longest, as it's still in perfect shape, and still works great. My kids have gone through three XP versions, and now we have this newer FX version. It'll be interesting to see how long this one will last. The XP version didn't last a year, only time will tell how long this one will last.

4 out of 5 stars One of a kind!   July 24, 2008

My two year old enjoys his video now. Movies are a little hard to find. I also recommend purchasing the car adapter for car rides. This system eats batteries.

2 out of 5 stars Can get better players these days   May 17, 2008

If you can find this item cheap, its probably worth a buy, however at full price it definitely is not. The video quality is very, very poor, especially for this day and age. I have been through several videos, and they are very laggy and the image quality cannot keep up with the LCD resulting in lots of ghosting and just very poor quality video in general. It also skips a lot while using it in a car making it almost non usable in the place that it would probably be best used in.

The screen does not have any type of protection on it, its basically an exposed LCD screen so when dust falls on the screen and you try to wipe it off, the screen scratches instantly. At the very minimum, this should come with a screen protector in the package. Dropping this toy would certainly break it as it contains a laser for reading the discs which is delicate plus the screen would likely not survive since its not protected at all, so it would be best used by only careful children. If your child has other electronics that can play videos, such as an Ipod or portable DVD player, don't even think about getting this for them, because it will be a waste. Your better off investing the money in a portable dvd player and using it with the dvd's you already own. With the price of dvd's getting cheaper and cheaper your better off investing in a portable dvd player and dvd's than this piece of junk.

The PVD's for this player are also very short and you pay a high price for only 30-60 min of video per disc (20 min per disc on older discs), the discs are also hard to come by and therefore quite pricey as this product is being phased out of retail stores slowly where I am at least.

Different kind of entertainment for a child. Good for a long car ride. Lots of PVd's to choose from or create you own.
