Quality and Safety Problems. Too Expensive. September 15, 2009 MH in PA (PA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These sounded and looked like good ideas but the quality control/design of the plastic connectors are so poor that if your child is rough on them or steps on them, the eventually work loose and come apart, exposing sharp metal screw points. Poor construction quality from China or poor engineering design or both. We purchased three and they have all fallen apart at the connector junctions. I had one replaced by the company but same end result. NOT RECOMMENDED unless you plan to be very gentle with these.
Too expensive to have enough pieces to play with June 11, 2009 K. Dyer We own two Automoblox (blue sedan and green truck) and while they are well made and nice cars to play with the idea of pulling them apart and building new cars is extremely limited with only two. The price is a serious limit on how many we can afford and two cars just doesn't create much variety.
Also, you can't just pull the end off one and place on on another -- the interior connector has to be switched out, which is too tricky for 5 year old fingers. The documentation says "this offers a welcome level of complexity" but I think it just makes it needlessly difficult.
Auto Block FUN January 28, 2009 P. Cicalo The Auto Block Truck is of superior quality and provides hours of entertainment for young inquiring minds who like to take a part and put things together. Great fun for my 3 year old grandson!
An excellent grandparent gift! March 10, 2008 Ruth A. Stump (Michigan) The automoblox cars are expensive, but worth the expense. I gave one to my 4-year-old grandson, and he loves it; he spends a lot of time taking it apart and putting it back together; he plays with the people and makes up stories about the people in the car. His 2-year-old brother also fell in love with this car, so I bought him an automoblox truck. Another great hit. He loves to take off the wheels and put them back on. He also loves to put the truck back inside the molded plastic container, and to fit that back into the box, which is now the "garage."
This is a simple toy, very well made, which encourages a child to do a lot of imaginative play.
Great for developing gross and fine motor skills, and creativity November 23, 2007 D (Metro Detroit, MI USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is an exceptional toy, that combines the gross motor skill training of block, the fine motor skills training of fitting pieces together in the correct manner, and the creativity of learning how to use different pieces to make unique creations.
It's solid wood, good quality, and well-packaged. The vehicles are made in the USA, although the wood is German beech wood.
The price is a bit high, but this isn't a "mass market" toy, this is a toy that seems like it could be passed down to your kid's children. Obviously, you can tell I was very happy with the toy.
