Product Description The Desk Pro is a computer of their very own to advance kids' learning and interest in new subjects. It will engage kids in 100 different games that introduce important skills in math, languages, science and social studies. Artificial intelligence technology tracks a child's progress and adjusts subjects and skill level automatically so that a child remains properly challenged. As this advanced technology works behind the scenes, the child masters content by answering challenging questions. Experiencing a real computer environment while at the same time directing a child's focus is a win-win situations for parents and children. Requires 4 "AA" batteries (included). Measures 6.9"L x 10" W x 13"H.
Amazon.com The DeskPro aims to enhance classroom curriculum through 100 different games in eight different subject categories. Although designed to look like a desktop computer, complete with keyboard and mouse, the DeskPro is an electronic toy and does not offer Internet connectivity or extensive data storage capabilities. It does, however, offer learning activities on topics such as math and logic, vocabulary, science, social studies, and Spanish. Other challenge areas include the adventure category, which presents kids with word puzzles, and the quiz show module, which fires off knowledge-based questions. Equipped with artificial intelligence, the DeskPro adjusts the level of play to match up to the player's skills, based on his answers. Three bonus CD-ROMs with additional math and Spanish curriculum and music mixing activities are also included and can be inserted in the CD-ROM tray in the monitor's base. A utilities area provides a space for kids to do calculations or word processing, check on their cumulative progress during their gaming session, save contacts into their phone book, or get reading suggestions. One major criticism of this toy is that most 7-year-olds (the recommended beginning age for this toy) are fairly computer-savvy and will find the user interface on the DeskPro to be archaic. The 1-bit graphics are so rudimentary that it's difficult to make out the images. In addition, the game play instructions are not well communicated and the computerized voice is not very engaging. The DeskPro could be considered a first step for a child progressing toward getting his own desktop computerand the price point is certainly a lot better. However, if parents are looking to purchase an educational learning system for their child, there are others available in the same price range that are far superior. --Cristina Vaamonde

| Customer Reviews: V Tech review January 13, 2009 Dee K. Mcgraaw (Grand Rapids, Mi USA) I have a 7 year old that has enjoyed this program. My only issue so far has been with the screen and graphics which are very hard for us to see (we are used to normal computer screen) and sometimes makes it difficult to track. Otherwise, she is having fun with it.
Great learning toy December 4, 2008 Cindy (MA) My five year old son received this as a gift last year. It is both fun and educational. It is amazing that this computer toy tracks my son's progress and automatically adjusts contents to fit his current skill level. He had a similar laptop toy from Oregon Scientific before. This one is so much better and more interactive than the old one. My two year old likes this toy too. It really helps to take him away from the "real" laptop. The two year old really like to experience using the mouse.
