3 out of 5 stars At least I'm not alone.... :-)   July 27, 2009
Norene M. Parker (Ellicott City, MD United States)
We got our first portable V-Smile some years back, and I got the charger at the same time. Ours is pretty darn finicky. A child could never get it to work. I found I have to put rubber bands (STRONG ONES) to hold the unit on that stand and then unplug and replug the cord in the back a few times before it will start up. That usually works. Once it a while it looses contact during the charge, so we mostly use the Leapster now. He has several of them (he's severly handicapped and can't do much else and cannot have anything with small pieces, yet loves noise and games and Sponge Bob...at 24 years old! : I should mention that the Original Leapster charger worked better than the one they sell now for the Leapster 2....might have to get out the rubber bands again. I sure hope not.
But recently I got him the newer V-Smile Cyber Pocket. Apparently they are not going to even make a charger for it. Just a plug in cord. Not something any parent would give to a child who is at the developmental age to enjoy this toy, for sure! I liked the cover over the screen on the newer version, the design under it is just plain stupid. A big blank white square in the middle of the button area and the screen in the "lid". I had hoped it was a touch pad, but I guess I should have known better.
I didn't give the VSmile Charger as low a grad as I was tempted to, because I must admit the charger Pack's batteries have lasted over two years and it's Still going.... Wish I oculd say the same thing for the newer model, but it just EATS batteries. Also the volume is even louder than the first one, and I didn't think that was possible! He has to be supervised at all times and those "tunes" are just bouncing around in my head exploding for days after only a few hours. I can't leave the room/car/etc to escape it and he figures out the volume control first thing, just to see how loud he can be (he can't talk, either, poor thing!). These folks designing these V Smile toys need to learn that too much of a good thing will chase the adults away and the kids sure don't buy these items....:-) With the cost of cartidges and everything like that, you can easily run up $100 for your inital toy. I don't like to pay that kind of money for something that is going to drive me over the edge...:-)

3 out of 5 stars Love the concept...actual functionality a bit dicey.   May 11, 2009
LadyHawke9973 (UT USA)
I bought this recharging station to go along with my 5-year-old's pink VSmile Pocket (not Cyber Pocket).

The charge pack fits well into the battery compartment, though the included charging cover didn't fit the back design of the Pocket. Luckily the included battery cover on the Pocket was pre-designed with the correct charging holes (a possible misfit was not indicated on either the Power Pack documentation OR the NEWER VSmile Pocket's documentation (I would expect SOMEthing, somewhere would have described this, rather than let me figure it out on my own).

Once installed, the power pack works as it should, but I have to go over and reset the thing on the charging station as my daughter (who I bought it for so I wouldn't have to worry about it) can rarely get it to set on the station correctly so you know it's charging. Even I struggle to get the lights to flash...have to hold your mouth just right, I guess.

That said, once you spend the time to get it powered up, it does it's job well and the charge pack in the VSmile Pocket unit itself holds the charge for quite awhile.

5 out of 5 stars NOT compatible with v. smile CYBER pocket   October 21, 2008

I love the v.smile systems...but just to let you all know, so you don't make the same mistake I did. I ordered this thinking that it would be compatible with my children's v.smile CYBER pocket, well it's not. as far as I know the one that is for the cyber pocket is not available online as of yet. I hope that this helps all you looking to see if this is the correct power pack, I sure wish that if someone else had made the mistake of ordering this posted a comment, would have saved me time and disappointment.

5 out of 5 stars Worth it   July 17, 2008

VTech must've worked out the bugs because we haven't had any problems with ours. Easy to use, no juggling 'just so' to get it to work. Easy enough that our 4 year old can set his V.Smile on the charger when he knows the battery is low. Highly recommend purchasing this product if you have the V.Smile Pocket system.

5 out of 5 stars Necessity for the VSmile Pocket   January 27, 2008

We bought this for our 3 1/2 year old daughter along with the VSmile Pocket for Christmas. She loves the VSmile so it is great just having the battery charger. The batteries when charged last a long time. It is a lot better than having to constantly change the batteries.
