A Magic Friend (is it Puff?) June 11, 2009 a gentle sound (USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I selected this toy quite a few years ago after a surgery appt to remove my staples as I was learning there was a need to "go back in," but, hey, that's not relevant here. Except.... it's why I gave myself permission to get this just for myself. For quite a few years blood tests, Cat Scans, worse, pain, I gave myself a Beanie Baby until I got over 300 and gave them to kids finally....I grew up a girl that loved her stuffed animals-nothing like this grand dragon though-and this was so large, so plush, so huggable, so regal. It just captured me.
I still recall him sitting there that day.
When were first became acquainted.
I'm a 1st grade teacher for ten years, ten more a 4th grade one with several more in other grades, so it may be that I like things like this thinking of the classroom as a place it can rest.Who knows if my occupation was artist full time I might just get new pastel sets. It maybe that having three children activated those feelings for toys. It maybe the trauma of surgery made me enjoy things like this. Or lost moments in youth to be worked through. I recommend this toy in particular if you know someone in recovery from cancer, from tough days, someone you consider this gentle companion might please. (if they enjoy something fanciful)
It's really bright, soft, a bit bendable so it can move a bit, be turned a little. So far my 1st grade plays with him and no broken neck or catastrophic hurt from being shoved in moving boxes when we moved rooms. So that's great. To be honest I never thought I'd see him for sale and finding him here today really shocked me. I can send this to a new baby boy born to a dear child of a coach that I've known all my life and that'll be just perfect. Another to a nephew. Again great.
I think their childhood passes in a gentle second, mine are almost all grown. I'd give a lot for the days of these adventures, toys, feelings again.
I teach and preserve that connection to the child, I'm very lucky. I can tell you that my students have given this dragon their approval. And as I turn to teach Pre-K this summer I'll be super excited to have our dragon drawing daze. And sing of Puff.
Duaghters Loved it from the Start March 5, 2009 j-rob-82 (Virginia) As soon as it came out of the package my kids had to get their hands on it. It has a good weight to it and it is very well made and very colorful with metal wires on the inside to pose it. There really isn't much to pose though given its small legs but the wings are movable and nicely made and not much of a concern about breaking them off. My kids haven't tried to get on its back or anything but with how well its made I don't think it will be an issue. My kids don't really care for dragons so I guess this one is an exception to them. I do wish you could pose the tail and head but there is no frame inside those but it isn't really that big of a deal. My two and four year old daughter love it and with that in mind I have to recommend it to others who have children.
NICE PRODUCT January 30, 2009 M. Garrott-Green (San Jose, CA United States) We use this dragon at our school since the dragon is our mascot. It is quite beautiful. We ordered two that were packaged well and delivered promptly. Thanks
fun January 14, 2009 Pamela D. Buck (PA) My nephew who is 7, who has Asbergers Syndrome (mild form of Autism), loves dragons, and this dragon fit the bill!...He loves it!...The dragon is long, and big & colorful, and a total kid magnet, if another child sees this dragon, they come over to check it out, heck some adults do too!
Great guardian of the night October 26, 2008 E. Williamson (Chicago area, IL) We purchased this beautiful Melissa and Doug dragon for our 3-year old grandson at Christmas a year ago. At the same time, we bought a book-and-CD set about "Puff," the magic dragon. We thought our little guy would love having his own magic dragon to play beside.
What we didn't anticipate was that this dragon would be such a good monster-chaser. In our grandson's bed, he proved to be a great guardian of the night to help our little guy sleep!
It's now been almost a year since the dragon joined the family. He's been fiercely loved by a little boy. That includes occasionally being "ridden" and "tossed" around the room. And just like another magical dragon, he's still safely (and durably) there.
