A Mah Jongg Handbook October 24, 2009 Judi Nudelman (Texas) I was looking for a review of American Mah Jongg rules. This book is not that. It has writeups about many of the international mah jongg forms - japan, china and I think America.
I found it very confusing - useless - and quickly put it aside as a waste of time relative to being a practical guide for American Mahjongg ..
HIGHLY RECOMMEND June 15, 2009 Mary E. Sagman (Haymarket, VA) This mah jongg book is great for the new player and also for anyone wishing to gain a few insights toward winning your game. Learning techniques are supported with pictures which makes it easier to understand. Highly recommend this book.
A Mah Jong Handbook May 29, 2009 Ann (Honolulu, Hawai'i) An updated version of her previous handbook. Clearer explanations and excellent photographs. Arrived in a few days at a price a few dollars less than I would have paid here at the bookstore.
Not what I was looking for January 8, 2009 Amy Chute (Troy, Michigan) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I returned this book after hoping that it would complement the Mahj Jongg lessons I took about a year ago. Unfortunately, it didn't. There was way too much on scoring. Scoring was not part of my instruction, so it wasn't a fit for me. I'll continue to look for a book that is directed at American Mahj with chapters on strategies and how to decide which hand to play with the tiles you have.
What am I buying? February 22, 2008 Salvajelobo (San Diego, Ca United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am not a Mahjong playe. My wife is. I wanted her to have a reference book on American version. I thought this would be good. Little information available on books contents and objectives except the usual hype about how we cannot get along without it. The book was very difficult to figure out. I still don't know whether or not it can be used for the american version of the game. It was poorly written and organized. I sent it back and paid for the return shipping. I will want more details when I buy another. Maynard
