Story and Gameplay
Like every The Sims game, the story behind the World Adventures Expansion is whatever you want to make of it, but in this case within the realm of international travel. And why not, since what sim doesn't need a vacation. Players choose from environments set Egypt, France or China, with the possibility of others via download. Similarly, gameplay follows the same well-worn path familiar to veteranThe Sims players, and easy to pick up for those coming to the franchise for the first time. Players create their sims as they like, customizing everything from physical characteristics, all the way down to personality traits, habits, etc. They can mix with other sims, build relationships, start families and even die. Because this expansion is based around travel, your sims can also discover rich, new cultures, develop brand-new skills and abilities and explore and adventure through realistic environments. New skills related to these destinations include photography, martial arts, and nectar making (a sim beverage) among others. As part of of the exotic locales available, sims can get adventurous and explore the caves and tombs of Egypt and China. Here they will put their new adventure related abilities to work as they participate in Indiana Jones like adventures full of excitement and even danger, including some not-so friendly mummies and the Grim Reaper.

Unique Simlish Soundtrack
Just as with travel, every sim has his/her particular musical tastes. With that in mind the World Adventures Expansion Pack features an all-star soundtrack of real songs, recorded by the original artists in the sims native tongue of Simlish. These tracks include:

  • Audrye Sessions - "Turn Me Off"
  • Broken Hearts Club - "Na NA NA"

  • Fefe Dobson - "I Want You"
  • Friday Night Boys - "Can't Take That Away"

3 out of 5 stars It should be a base game on it's own.....   March 17, 2010
E. Sainvil (MA)
I purchased this game two days ago and I have been playing it since. I love the graphics, the new furniture, clothes and the unique looking foreigners. I have not ran into any bugs yet but then again I have not played the game for very long extended hours.

Overall I like the game but honestly I do think it would be cool if this was its own seperate game. I felt a bit overwheled I guess with everything there was to do. Adding this to my sims 3 base game I think changed the look of my sim in the game which is annoying. My sims look a little bit blurry. The furniture and homes look fine but the sim themselves do not look the same. In any case, I don't feel like this game is a must have. I like it but the minute I run into an issue, I won't have any issues unistalling it.

4 out of 5 stars Not too shabby for the first expansion   February 21, 2010
J. Ollry (LV/ChiT)
I have been playing the sims since 1999 when the original came out....bought all the expansions for it.
Whens Sims 2 came out I bought it....and all the expansions that came with that.

For Sims 3 the game alone is great, this expansion pack gives you (and your sim) and little bit of adventure just like the title says. I enjoy the little games your Sims play in the game. Best part is the mummy curse, took forever to figure out how to cure it but it was exciting. My only disappointment is that I would have expected EA to create a expansion pack similar to the Sims 2 Pets as that was one of the most popular.

Regardless, if you love the Sims you'll love this game.

4 out of 5 stars Adventures, Dangers, and Hot French men, oh my!   February 21, 2010
Morgan (Morgan)
This game is, overall, pretty cool.

I must make a point though-- if you don't have a good graphics card, you're not going to enjoy this game at all. This is a very detailed game, and if you don't get the detail, then you're missing out on more then half of the game.

Overall:
The Tombs are my favorite. You explore these new tombs that have different puzzles (they're very VERY simple puzzles, yet fun to have your characterized sim go through them), defeat mummies (or run from them), and even find numerous of simones. Traveling CAN be a career for your sim because of how much money you gain within the short amount of time that you travel.

The Bad:
The "adventures" are lame. Unless someone needs something from a tomb, they're lame. It's normally someone asking another person something through you, you finding a treasure for someone, or you running around town for them doing stupid things that take wayy to much time then they deserve. I hate that the only way to boost your Visa (which are the points that you get, and the more, the longer your next stay can be) and get money (besides going into tombs). They were all pretty pointless and pretty frustrating.
Also, careful how you act towards the villagers in the different countries. It's EASY to offend them. Be as polite as possible, or else you're not going to have much help when coming to getting short cuts for those lame adventures that you have to go on.

The Good:
Detail, detail, detail! Everything is detailed to an amazing level. I love the menus when you go to the different places. You get the cultural dishes, such as frog legs and cheese plates in France, to dim sung in China, and unpronounceable dishes in Egypt. The clothes are accurate, and there are even a few outfits that have been modernized. AMAZING extras for your sim, as well. Including new hair styles and clothes, the furniture is great. All of the addtions are useful. Espeically if you're into landscaping, there are tons of new flowers to choose from.

Pretty good game. I would reconmend it to anyone who's a Sims 3 fan. Overall, I think it's good. =)

Great game, loading time could be better. Hopefully patches are being developed to fix that problem. It is constantly being updated just make sure you are online when you go to play and it will tell you if an update is available.

I love that this expansion has challenges...rather than just directing the daily tasks of a sim's life this adds "adventures" for your sims to accomplish...goals to attain...much more enjoyable
