A Racing Game That's a Great Alternative To Gran Turismo November 19, 2009 Javier Miranda (Georgia, USA) I used to play Gran Turismo. Then I got an Xbox 360. No more Gran Turismo... Fortunately, I found Forza Motorsport 3, which is, in many respects, superior than Gran Turismo (at least up to 4; I haven't played the one on the Playstation 3). I mostly do single player, so I can't comment on multiplayer at all. I've found that the customization in Forza is much more thorough and more involved than in Gran Turismo, which is definitely a good thing. It's nice to know that you can swap engines and drivetrains if you need to. As for the Performance Index, I can say that it is a rough calculation of a vehicle's performance based on individual components. As a result, two different vehicles with the same PI may be vastly different in terms of handling and performance characteristics. As for similarity in engine sounds, I can't really say I pay too much attention, though I do think that they're different and based in reality. I can't really say I've had any problems with this game in terms of glitching or anything like that, though installing it to your hard drive will appreciably decrease the loading times. Overall, I'd say that this is one of the most detailed, thorough, and well made racing games I've ever played. Don't take my word for it, though. Buy it and try it for yourself.
The Best Racing Game to Date November 18, 2009 Jeremy McCrate (Tulsa, OK USA) As the third iteration in the racing game series from developer Turn 10 Studios, Forza Motorsport 3 has been finely polished into the best driving simulator available. Much like the track-built autos in the game, Forza 3 has stripped out all the excess weight while at the same time adding more power and tightening up the control. A streamlined career mode makes progressing through the game fast and entertaining. A physics engine that updates 360 times a second gives incredible precision to the action. Revised control scheme helps driving with a controller feel more accurate.
On top of the improvements, Turn 10 added more vehicles, more tracks, more race types, and a long awaited cockpit view with detailed interiors for every car. A new vinyl creator makes it easy to create vinyl groups to apply to the cars or to sell on the new Storefront. All-in-all Forza 3 is not only the best Forza game but the best racing sim on any console including the PS3 (home of Gran Tursimo 5).
Forza Motorsport 2.1 November 17, 2009 Biff Boffo 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ouch! I just spent money for a game I already had. FM3 is Microsoft at its most typical -- simply repackage what you already have and charge a lot of money for it. The bottom line is that this game IS Forza Motorsport 2. There are a couple of new tracks and the available cars have been updated (but with still a lot of overlap with FM2), but make no mistake, there is very little that is new here. The quality of the graphics is OK (approximately the same as FM2), and the physics model is slightly different from FM2 (not better, just different). But compared to the previous version, races in this game load sooooo slooooooowly as to make the game virtually unplayable. When playing in single player mode, the AI cars love to hit you (e,g., they will ram you, swerve in front of, sideswipe you, and pull a Michael Schumacher by suddenly slowing down in front of you so that you lose your momentum); not very realistic. The online play is equally frustrating because of a horrible interface, lack of configuration abilities, and the glacial pace at which races load. If you already have (the heavily-flawed but much cheaper) FM2, there is no reason to buy this game. And if you have neither FM2 nor FM3, you may want to explore other options for racing simulations; but if you're set on exploring the world of Forza Motorsports, save yourself a lot of money (and frustration) and simply buy FM2.
Preferred Forza 2 over this big heap pile of hunk of junk. November 17, 2009 *Bling-Bling* (Lompoc, CA) Before you douse me in diesel fuel and set me on fire, let me say that I adored the 1st Forza and loved the 2nd one which was why I rented this one to see if it was really that much better. I had to clear most of my hard drive to just be able to experience the game in its full entirety which was a bit disappointing but I was sure it was going to be well worth it. It wasn't and for my loss I removed my Forza 2 data because I was certain I was gonna replace that with this 3rd installment (which won't be happening...ever).
Pros
-Slightly improved graphics.
-Cock-pit view added.
-More tracks + More cars.
-Retains everything (except for the multiplayer)that made Forza 2 stand out from the rest of the competition.
-Smooth Frame-Rate / No lagg issues whatsoever for a game this magnitude.
Cons
-Eats a whole lot of hard drive space.
-Multiplayer is way below par from the previous version.
-Generic cock-pit view when compared to other competitive racing titles.
-Retains everything (except for the multiplayer)that made Forza 2 stand out from the ... (Wait... Its the same game but worst).
-Unnecessary Replay added.
-Unnecessary Driver Assists added.
-Rollovers sequences seemed to be a last minute add-on as they're visually poorly executed in animation.
Overall
I have just as much fun playing this game in single player mode as I do while playing Forza 2 in single player mode but when it comes to Multiplayer, Forza 2 is clearly better. The attention to car customization seemed to be the primarily focus in this game while racing seemed to be a distant seconded. (Don't know if the developers intended for it to be that way). Most of the enhancements in this game could have easily just have been DLC but I guess that would've just been bad profiting and not good for marketing sales. I'm very disappointed with the developers of Turn 10 as how they've took a wrong turn for the worst with this post-awesome franchise.
Bottom line.
Get (or stick with) Forza 2 over this, as it is typically the same game minus some of the improved graphics and many undesirle automobiles. Forza 2 is also a lot cheaper and a whole lot funner in Multiplayer so its pretty much a win-win situation.
(ZZZzzpt!)Just zipped up my flame suit. Alright, now let me have it. (Just try to keep the comments within a PG-13 limit as we all know amazon is a peaceful family site).
10 Times Better Than It's Predecessor November 13, 2009 Earl Wilkerson (South Beloit, IL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I haven't played the multiplayer mode as of yet, but can certainly attest to the entertainment value of the incredible single-player mode.
Once you get past all of the reviews from people whining about their spectacular scores/lap times being demolished because of the new timing rules and game physics (real racers get penalized for dropping wheels), and actually see the game for what it is, you will find it to be one of the most accurate racing games made for the XBOX 360.
Turn 10 revamped and tweaked the physics engine with absolute precision for this version of Forza. While there is still a very slight difference from the hyper realistic sim racers of the PC world, the quality, detail, and vehicular accuracy is excellent. Over pressurized brakes lock as they should, suspension gives and tightens with the dynamics of the track, and vehicle components wear out and break down much as their real-world counterparts would (although this is one area the realism could be tweaked for future Forza titles).
As I stated in my review for NFS: Shift, hardcore and mediocre sim racers will want to avoid Need for Speed and pick this one up instead!
