Product Description Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 PC
Amazon.com Product Description
Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series. View larger. | Story The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs. Gameplay The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them. Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches. Special Ops Co-op Mode Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality. Key Game Features - Challenging Multiplayer Modes – Modern Warfare 2 will contain a wealth of multiplayer modes including: the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy."
- Improved AI Enemies – Improved artificial intelligence now allows enemies to attack from virtually any direction as players respawn into the game adding additional challenges.
- An All-new Call of Duty Adventure - Modern Warfare 2 features an all new Call of Duty storyline revolving around the continuing struggles against the Russian rebel group the Ultranationalists, who have found a new and more dangerous leader.
- The 'Special Ops' Optional Co-op Mode – "Special Ops" Mode allows two players, either alone or with a friend, to engage in unique mission play and features split-screen functionality.
- Diverse In-game Environments - Battlegrounds traversed in the game range from the lonely, snow-clad mountains of Kazakhstan, to dark tunnels in the Afghanistan and the crowded slums of Rio.
- Nonstop Action - Modern Warfare 2 contains no cutscenes, so players are always engaged in the action, no matter where they are in the game.
- New Breach Gameplay Mechanic - Players can now blaze their own paths through the game by "Breaching" formerly impregnable obstacles like walls and doors with explosives.
- New Gadgets, Weapons and Weapons System Modern Warfare 2 contains many new and updated weapons, new weapons attachments, as well as a variant of the multiplayer weapons customization system from Call of Duty 4, now available in the single player campaign.
- New Perks and Increased Customization - Multiplayer modes feature new perks for leveling up, and for killstreaks and deathstreaks. Those awarded for streaks can customized in advance according to when they become available.

Good, yet the most disappointing CoD yet November 19, 2009 Douglas R Van Dyke While this is a game I would still recommend, I usually need to add a disclaimer. This is the most disappointing version of Call of Duty yet, mostly due to the multiplayer experience.
Let's talk about the single player game first. It is shorter than the first Modern Warfare, yet costs more. That has irked folks. However,it is still a very entertaining action game that at times has made me shout "Whoa!" during gameplay. Some scenes are very great and in the style we've seen in past versions. The bad part about the single player game, is parts of the storyline. There were two scenes that were very hard to play through from a moral perspective. One at least comes with a disclaimer....you can choose to skip it and not impede your gameplay. The other you have no choice. I'm unhappy that such content was included, and one you can't skip seeing.
As for the multiplayer, this is where they really fail. The lack of private servers makes it harder to find the game and type of people you want, under the various rules you like to see enforced. Playing on their server, I've already run across hackers with Aimbot, and I haven't found any means to kick or ban them. Grouping is very random unless your friends sign up on Steam, and even then its pretty random. Without private servers, you also can't permanently handle the hacker problem.
At first glance multiplayer woos you with numerous perks and callsigns, which is nice. Then they offer very intriguing killstreak rewards, flying gunner for a chopper, gunner on an AC130, or dropping a nuke. Unfortunately, the servers seem to sort folks on different sides based on how long they've been on the server, or some other logic, rather than their experience level in the game. This leads to some very unbalanced games. Usually the advantaged side has a guy that will unlock a high killstreak, using perks that far outbalance the game compared to Modern Warfare 1s dreaded chopper and airstrikes. So before you can get too excited over the killstreak perks, you have to face the fact that most gamers will be on the receiving end of this onslaught.
Overall, I find myself missing the first Modern Warfare's gameplay and multiplayer. The single player is still a good game if the money is worth it to you, but the multiplayer...which is supposed to carry most of the appeal...falls flat.

As has been said repeatedly, the single-player campaign is short (five hours on Hardened first time). The lack of leaning makes a few levels much more tedious than they need to be as you'll spend two hours of your play through rounding corners into a hail of gunfire. The gratuitous quick-time event with the mine was especially fun for me using a Nostromo - being told to "Press X" means a lot less to me than "duck". The difficulty overall seems to be tuned down from CoD4, with Hardened feeling more like Regular. If you play through on anything lower, don't bother firing a shot and just run to the next checkpoint, will get the time to complete down to two hours. Those gripes aside the single-player was as enjoyable as MW1.
The multiplayer is of course where it really nose dives. Claustrophobic maps, unbalanced weapons (full auto assault rifles as powerful and accurate as the single shots, why bother?), relatively short match durations, long intermissions between rounds; the list just goes on and on. Their idea of balance is apparently make it so holding down the Win button while rounding cramped corners gets as many kills as actually being able to aim on a more open map. The perk system is much better than CoD4 and the aesthetics of the weapons and attachments are more pleasing. Then there's the elephant in the room - the problems with the server set up aren't limited to lag, lack of customization, and small player counts. There's also no auto-balance, and you can't switch teams. So if you find yourself on the ugly end of a 2v6 scenario you better grab a riot shield and go hide in a corner.
Really a shame, because it wants to be fun.
Well, its an improvement November 19, 2009 Allen Woods (Manteca, CA USA) 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is for the pc
I have to admit: as much as I really enjoyed MW 2, there really isnt any other game in history that hasnt been as overhyped as this one. Yes its fun. Yes its more action packed than the first. No, im not going to give it a low score just because there are no dedicated servers. While I actually enjoyed multiplayer, I didnt buy the game exclusively for that, and Im sure most gamers will say the same. The major gripe I have about this game is that IW still hasnt changed the basic gameplay formula since the first call of duty, and I have to say its getting pretty stale. They just covered it up with in your face action and awesome set pieces and more awesome weapons. MW 2 is a great game. Is it game of the year? No. Is it the greatest game ever? Hell no. Lets say its fun and leave it at that.
The Greatest Game Ever Played! November 19, 2009 thelazygaragesale 4 out of 12 found this review helpful
Activision Blizzard said that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has sold $550 million worth in five days.
It didn't say how many units this represented and the figure is an internal estimate, but it claims that it beats all previous sell through records, including Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince,The Dark Knight, and Grand Theft Auto IV.
Stay Away and Tell Your Friends to Stay away November 19, 2009 J. W. Nance (Maryland) 5 out of 10 found this review helpful
Its been echoed throughout these reviews, but DO NOT PURCHASE THIS GAME FOR THE PC.
It is a straight port from consoles to the PC, the matchmaking is horrendous and the infiltration of hacks and hackers is unreal.
Do not waste your money on Modern Warefare 2, save it for Bad Company 2.
