Canon BP-819 December 1, 2008 I got the Canon battery because it will activate the battery-usage indicator in the camera and it will be able to be recharged while attached to the camera. I think the knock-off brands, though cheaper, aren't capable of doing these things. Oh, it does increase shooting time by at least 2x. Some days are diamonds, the next days is coal. But, life goes on.Canon BP-819 Lithium Ion Battery Pack for HF10 and HF100 Camcorders

I am so happy to have this for my camera. It has come in really handy in allowing me to record for longer and not having to recharge while on vacation/trips.

Well worth while but expencive, it will cover you for a whold day for a day out on holiday, where the standard supplied battery did not last.

This is the battery that should come with your video camera by default.
What do you do if you want to record events that last longer than 1.5 hours ? You upgrade the battery, right.
The BP-827 (4.5h) is not easy available yet everywhere so the BP-819 becomes the only choice.
It can last close to 3h and thats enough to capture most events. (Fireworks, school event of your kid, concerts, theatre etc.).
With the external charger the battery is charged in roughly the same time (3h) with the cameras included charger its taking 4h.

Canon BP-819 extends shooting time significantly, battery does its job and, even though larger than original equipment, is not unwieldy.
