Fun and educational, maybe better for ages 8 and up November 14, 2009 phred (Minneapolis, MN USA) My kids have really enjoyed this game, and my 8-year-old daughter is really getting quite good at keeping her fingers on the 'home row' of keys and typing without looking. This is surely a skill that will server her well for her whole life, and it's not something that schools seem to teach. My 6-year-old son finds it a bit more frustrating because his fingers aren't long enough to reach all of the keys without pulling his fingers off the home row. No the fault of the game; touch typing may just be a skill better taught to kids at least 8 or 9 years old. We have the game installed on an old G4 iBook for the kids, and it works great.
SpongeBob "Fun Club" Typing Game November 13, 2009 Phillip Shero (Mbale, Uganda) At first I thought this game would be really fun. But after awhile it started to get really hard. But I kept with it, and I got to Flats the Flounder (that's round 4 out of 5). I haven't gotten farther than that so far. I have Asperger's and it's really hard for me not to get frustrated. But my mom cheers for me and it helps me a lot. Now I think it's almost the best game I've ever had. (It's 2nd after Lego Star Wars, which has nothing to do with typing.) I recommend you buy this game, and your children will really love it. It's an A.
(Dictated by Malachi, age 9, and typed by Mom, since she's over 13.)
Great typing software! :D June 25, 2009 Hannah Storey-Gore 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My parents bought me an older version of this game for Christmas one year, and when I got it, I had no interest in playing it. However, a couple of years later, I decided to try and learn how to type.
It taught me all of the correct fingerings in a really entertaining way, and the games were great. My first day of keyboarding class in 8th grade, my teacher asked where I learned to type, and I said, "The Spongebob Squarepants Typing Game."
She was speechless.
I really recommend this game to all parents, as it's a lot better than school typing programs. Don't subject the poor things to learning how to type using an outdated book (watching my classmates do this made me cringe).
It's really cheap, and you won't regret buying it. :)
Save your $ - buy a Krabby Patty instead May 18, 2009 Alison Jones (Atlanta, GA United States) After reading the reviews here, I was surprised that this software doesn't interest my kids in the least (ages 7 and 10, and they love Sponge Bob). It also performs very poorly on the Mac, practically comandeering my operating system and forcing it to behave like that clunky program known as Windows. The Learning Company could do much better.
spongebob typing May 5, 2009 A. Hanlon I purchased this game for my 5 yr to toy with. I didn't have high hopes but, I thought it would be an entertaining way of introducing her to idea of typing. I'm delighted after two weeks of just letting to play at her own pace, she has learned her home row keys. That's pretty awesome.
I think the makers of this game have done a great job. It seems like if I just keep showing interests this game and my child's progress with it she'll probably continue to grow in her typing skill.
If your wondering if you should buy it or not buy it?
BUY IT!!
