| Customer Reviews: doesn't actually teach math? June 29, 2009 diablito (Sacramento, CA) We just got this and have only played for a short time, but it seems like the game expects the child to KNOW all of the math concepts the game is based on, and doesn't actually TEACH it to them if they don't. I don't need a game that is more exercises (@#$%* public school!), I need something that will lead my child through learning how to solve the problems, and hopefully in a fun way.
The link between the activities required to discover clues and the clues themselves is weak. The first time we found a clue, we were helping a yak herder set up fences (finding area). Once we completed the exercise, the clue was: the suspect does not wear glasses. The first thing out of my son's mouth was "What? Why?" Also, the "logic cube" used to solve the mysteries is little more than a glorified version of the board game "Guess Who?" My guy was not impressed.
We'll keep trying it out, but if your kids don't already know fractions, area, decimals, and some basic geometry, you might want to skip this game.

Runs on older Windows versions. Very good. My son loves it. Beware: WILL NOT RUN ON WIN VISTA 64 Bit -- get an incompatible os error message -- Believe this is a 16 bit program which VISTA does not support at all (only 32 and 64 bit).
Ok software, comes in just a jewel case. November 25, 2008 Adam (California USA) The Cluefinders Math Adventures software is ok but it would be nice to have a manual or a how to play the game. It is pretty straight forward but you will have to stumble around a few spots in the game to figure it out. Overall if I had to buy the software over again I would look for the full retail package and not just the CD.
A Must Have April 15, 2008 Gail R. Gunter (Goldsboro, NC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This software takes your kids on an adventure where they have to solve math problems of various types to gather information from the local people. It is well thought out and the kids love it because it doesn't feel like drill work for Math skills. There are prompts if you get stuck and lots of encouragement. A must have for your 9-12 year olds!
