Product Description Travel to a remarkable new world and treat your brain to an outlandishly fun and challenging adventure. Diabolical Bloats have seized Zoombini Isle, and it will take a clever mind to help the Zoombinis navigate their way to safety. Standing between you and your destination are twelve perilous puzzles, with four levels of difficulty each. But beware, this is no ordinary challenge. Zoombinis' captivating gameplay features math without numbers. Solving Zoombinis puzzles uses the process of mathematical thinking. This process includes organizing information, reasoning with evidence, and testing systematically. Dive into the exciting and wacky world of the Zoombinis and develop information-age logic skills used in writing computer programs, organizing spreadsheet data, and searching for information on computer networks.
Amazon.com Review "Not too long ago, Zoombinis enjoyed the good life. Though they all looked slightly different--different eyes, noses, hair, feet--such differences meant nothing to the Zoombinis. And so they lived happily on Zoombini Isle, making small, useful products, which were prized the world over." So begins an unsuspectingly addictive CD-ROM, featuring uncommonly fun reasoning games that require serious problem solving and math-thinking work. Yet the perils that face this cheerful society are not as fearsome as the amount of time you'll potentially spend on this pursuit. Beware the chubby, chattering Zoombinis if you don't want to get hooked to your computer for at least 90 minutes a session! Adored by educators and parents alike, Zoombinis Logical Journey challenges children to employ such basic fundamentals of mathematical thinking as organizing information, reasoning of evidence, finding and making patterns, and systematic testing of hypotheses. The journey follows four puzzle-filled trails, each exploring related mathematical ideas. The fundamental data and variables for all this work are the variations in the Zoombinis' features. Their "feet," for example, can be shoes, skates, whirligigs, or coiled springs (the sound effects for these items are particularly great), while their "eyes" may be heavily lidded, enhanced by eyeglasses, blocked by dark shades, or limited to just a single eyeball. Sorting and arranging these variables in order to solve puzzles requires concentrated effort from the players, and the game rewards them well with inventive scenarios that evolve in fabulously curious ways as skills are gained. This may not sound like much, but when Arno the Pizza-Eating Tree Troll, who has been yammering for the perfectly topped pizza his entire lifetime, suddenly demands a perfectly topped ice cream sundae, too, it is a staggering, giddy surprise. The product is full of so many little joys, it's hard to demand improvements. Still, it'd be a great thing if version 2 would feature something other than the monotonous, ping-ping-ping soundtrack that's featured here. But that's minor. In the end, the creators' promise that this CD-ROM will "encourage kids to develop a lifetime habit of associating fun with learning" is dead-on. (Ages 9 and older) --Jean Lenihan

What a challenge November 13, 2009 Arizona Reader (Arizona) The Zoombinis Logical Journey is great for kids of almost all ages. My five year-old loves to create the different looking Zoombinis. My eleven year-old is being challenged by the higher levels. The levels gradually get harder and change as you get more of the Zoombinis along the journey to Zoombiniville. We still haven't gotten all the Zoombinis to safety, but it's been fun so far.
Excellent for teaching beginning logic November 12, 2009 DeputyHeadmistress Your children will learn basic logic skills and they won't even know it. As they play the games, they will learn to recognize increasingly complex patterns, categorize on the basis of various attributes, and even some rudimentary test taking skills, as they have to figure out what attributes the computer game is looking for (this is not the same every time you play). There is more than enough variety to keep the play interesting for a long time.
This does NOT work well on Windows XP, almost no good children's computer games do. We already owned this game and knew it worked and worked well when we upgraded to XP and discovered what a mess it was to try to use it with our kids' games. We finally picked up an old windows 98 at a library sale just for the children's games.
Disappointed Mom November 2, 2009 Mad Mom It doesn't work!!! I've tried to load the program several times, but when you push start, the screen goes blank. I tried going to the website to look for updates or troubleshooting, but their website is no longer up. My kids were really looking forward to the game, but what a disappointment. I don't know what other recourse I have, but Amazon needs to pull this product.
BUYER BEWARE if you are installing on computer w/ Windows XP! October 7, 2009 Larry Styes (Newnan, GA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Unable to get this game to run on HP Pavilion a450n with Windows XP O/S. Looks like some folks have been able to work around the problem with Windows XP by using the Program Compatibility Wizard, but I've had no such luck. There is no "fix" available from the vendor, as TLC/Broderbund no longer supports this product (they subbed that out to a company called Sunburst, and they aren't really supporting the product either). BUYER BEWARE - you will likely have trouble getting this game to work if you are running Windows XP (or Vista for that matter).
Doesn't work!!! October 3, 2009 J. Eubanks 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I can not get the game to install on my computer. When I try, it changes the settings on my display and trys to register, but can not. I tried to look for updates, but the Zoombinis website no longer exists. I am very disappointed in the game, maybe the game is just too old. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. My kids play it at school and love it, but we can't get this one working.
