5 out of 5 stars Special Needs Moms - check this out!   February 1, 2008
My son has Down Syndrome and I've been told that he can learn most anything, you just have to find his particular 'learning pathway' for him to master it. Well, we have been working for years on time and money, with very little progress, but in the last 4 months he has mastered time and money with 30 minutes a day useing this program. An unexpected bonus was he picked up fractions in the process, something we hadn't even tried yet thinking he wasn't ready! I am so thrilled with this program that I am looking for other programs by School Zone, hoping to have similar success. I know I sound like a commercial, but I honestly have no affiliation with this company. Maybe I should!

I do need to add that Ben is a very visual learner, so that might have helped, for this program is designed for such. I can see how some moms see this as an electronic workbook, but there is an immediate reward element as well as games occasionally that helps relieve the inevitable monotony, along with the keyboard advantage for kids that struggle with writing. Ben also liked the aspect of finishing all the pages, at the bottom of the screen it gave him a visual of how many he had left to do.

I can't say that Ben was begging to do this program because it was so fun, but making it a required part of his homeschool, it was easy to get him to do his 'math'. I try alot of different learning programs in search of ways to teach Ben, and I am thrilled with this particular School Zone product. I'm happy to answer any questions by email, and would love to know other mom's software discoveries.

5 out of 5 stars Homeschoolers!   March 22, 2007
I have two children that I am home schooling and they love this cdrom. They are kindergarten and 1st grade and it has really helped them with learning time, Money and fractions. I highly recommend this! One thing I really love is that it tracks what is incorrect and makes them go back to do it again and it also allows them to print an award when it is all done correctly! I love it!

4 out of 5 stars My son loves it!   February 23, 2006

My 6-year-old son loves this CD. It comes with a workbook that he completed all on his own...which is amazing for a somewhat lazy kid who never wants to do his homework. The first one got lost and I had to order it again because he kept asking for it.

4 out of 5 stars Great for young children   October 31, 2005

I have a 4 year old daughter who absolutely loves this CD, she will sit for over an hour and work through the entire disc. The first day she needed assistance to understand the directions but since then she works through the disc alone and if she makes a mistake she can go back and fix it herself. When she has completed the disc she then prints a certificate that says 100% correct. She LOVES it! The Reading Readiness, Transition Math and Vocabulary Puzzles for grade 1 are great too for preschool aged children.

3 out of 5 stars Electronic Workbook   August 31, 2005

I purchased this CD-rom at a large discount retailer for about $6.50. That's about how much it's worth. If I had paid more than that, I think I would feel ripped off.

The best way to describe "Time, Money & Fractions, Grades 1-2" is as an electronic workbook. It is not really what I would classify as a computer "game". The exercises do offer some good reinforcement of basic skills, but I have to sit with my daughter while she uses this program in order to explain/interpret the directions and to help her find the keys on the keyboard. My six-year old is probably "gifted" (we homeschool so I really have no clue if she technically is gifted, but teachers I know say that she probably is) who has a pretty long attention span, but even she finds the exercises to be challenging, bordering on monotonous.

I wouldn't really classify this disc as "making learning fun". It only real use is to make learning electronic and offer a slight variety to filling out workbook pages.

Also, I am able to run this on OS X on my Mac.
