Amazon.com Nash Bridges lasted six seasons, and as Nash tells his second wife while signing the divorce papers, "it was fun while it lasted." These very entertaining first eight episodes set the stage for this underestimated series that put a resonant Baby Boomer spin on the traditional cop show. Nash (Don Johnson), former golden gridiron hero and rising star on the force, is now in his "mature years." He is twice-divorced with a teenage daughter he doesn't see as much as he should. His father (the great, grizzled James Gannon) is in the early stages of Alzheimer's ("When his mind goes out, it breaks your heart," Nash's sister tells him). Nash's personal life may be in shambles, but he excels on the job as the leader of San Francisco's Special Investigations Unit, although as his one obnoxious rival on the force rants, his "methodology" is suspect. Nash Bridges is tailor-made to Don Johnson's considerable charisma and charm. Nash is "not a beat around the bush kind of guy," and much of the fun of every episode is watching the unflappable Nash keep his cool under fire. Nash Bridges is the very model of a star vehicle, but Johnson receives solid support from Cheech Marin as Joe Dominguez, Nash's former partner and now a private investigator with a penchant for get-rich quick schemes, Annette O'Toole (one of Hollywood's most criminally underutilized actresses) as Nash's adversarial first ex-wife, Jeff Perry as Harvey Leek, a tech-savvy former hippie, and Jamie P. Gomez as Evan, a reckless young cop. All are upstaged by Nash's car, an instantly iconic 1970 Plymouth Barracuda ("They only made 14 of them," Nash states), in which the characters do most of their relating. In the illuminating "Writer's Roundtable," one of the arresting extras included in this two-disc set, the writers jokingly call the "Cuda" the "moving confessional," and proclaim that these scenes are "the heart and soul of the show." Other extra features include entertaining commentary from Marin and series creator Carlton Cuse on the pilot episode, and an offbeat, not entirely focused commentary by Johnson himself on the explosive episode, "High Impact." There is also a 1996 on-set interview with Johnson and Marin that introduces the series. Another bonus segment reveals a cool bit of trivia: According to Johnson, the series had its origins in an idea from Johnson's Aspen, Colorado, neighbor, Hunter S. Thompson. --Donald Liebenson

Great purchase December 1, 2008 The DVD's were received in a timely manner, and the picture is excellent. I'm waiting to purchase the next series!
Still as great as I remember November 9, 2008 It has been a long time waiting but was worth the wait. I honestly didn't notice that the music was not the original. My memory is not what it used to be, buy I did remember what a great and fun show this was. I have waited a long time for NB to come to DVD. Now I just have to wait for the next season to come out. Still one of the best shows ever on TV
Nash Bridges is excellent!! November 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well worth the wait - Nash Bridges Season One. Pre-ordered it, got it, watched it - Loved it. Love the writer's roundtable, with the creator of The Shield, Shawn Ryan & Nash's co-creator Carlton Cuse(Miami Vice) among others discussing the character/series/story development - Can't Wait Until Season Two is out!!
Great But Came Scrached October 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love Nash Bridges so I thought I order it. And When it came I found out it was made in mexico and scrached. So now I would not be able to see it.
Don Johnson "one of t.v.'s best" October 27, 2008 I have been waiting for the Season 1 release of Nash Bridges for a long time, and I am grateful to CBS for the release. Though Season 1 is only eight episodes, the price for the dvd set is worth every penny. Don Johnson is an excellent actor; funny, serious, witty, emotional, and stylish. He was great in Miami Vice, Nash Bridges and Just Legal and I think he is great in every role he plays. The San Francisco locations used in Nash Bridges are awesome too and the camera shots of the yellow convertible 'Cuda driving around Frisco are awesome. You feel like you are flying around the 'Cuda listening to Nash (Don Johnson) talk and drive at the same time. Cheech Marin, Jeff Perry and Harvey Leek are great in Nash Bridges too. Hope to see you in more t.v. and films Don, and thanks for your style of entertainment, both directing and acting. My only wish is to see Nash Bridges filmed in widescreen. Although it still looks awesome on a 50" Plasma. Note to CBS, please release every season of Nash Bridges on DVD. Thanks from all Nash Bridges fans.
