Amazon.com essential video Jingoism, beefcake, military hardware, and a Giorgio Moroder rock score reign supreme over taste and logic in this Tony Scott film about a maverick trainee pilot (Tom Cruise) who can't follow the rules at a Navy aviation training facility. The dogfight sequences between American and Soviet jets at the end are absolutely mechanical, though audiences loved it at the time. The love story between Cruise's character and that of Kelly McGillis is like flipping through pages of advertising in a glossy magazine. This designer action movie from 1986 would be all the more appalling were it not for the canny casting of good actors in dumb parts. Standouts include Anthony Edwards--who makes a nice impression as Cruise's average-Joe pal--and the relatively unknown Meg Ryan in a small but memorable appearance. --Tom Keogh

all i can say is do not buy anything from amazon. com because although this one came we ordered season 4 of two& a half men they shipped it twice or at least they said they did after waiting 3& a half months for the dvd to arrive it never did their customer service was very rude and were either unable & unwilling to help us with this matter we went to wal mart & picked it up with no problem & it only took them one week to get it for us amazons service stinks.
Top Gun bluray October 19, 2008 The transfer to bluray rejuvenates this classic movie. Friends have marveled at the detail in the picture on the big screen.
Not much better than the original October 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Top Gun was, and still is the benchmark for home theater viewing. I just recently updated my system with all high end components and new larger plasma screen tv. Of course, the first thing I did was purchase Top Gun on Blue Ray. I guess since it was made so long ago, the video is somewhat limited as to how much better it could actually be. The audio is fantastic as ever. Over all, there were a couple of spots where things seemed a bit clearer and made you feel more like you were actually part of it but over all, the upgrade from the original is marginal at best. Top Gun is still awesome, but the Blue Ray upgrade is just so so.
What a pleasure!!! October 18, 2008 It is just more than just enjoyable to watch TO GUN in HD, the quality is perfect!!!
Top Gun's a classic, but save some money & get it on DVD October 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
One of my alltime favorite movies, I was hoping it would be worth having on Bluray, but as in most cases with films not just made there really is no big difference between the DVD & Bluray versions (at least, not so far as what I've come across).
The movie's a definite must have for any collection, but get it on DVD if you can find it cheaper.
