"Playmobil toys are a longtime children's favorite, and now those little plastic people with the hands that grip are coming to life in their very own pirate movie. A trip to Grandma and Grandpa's house becomes an adventure at sea for 7-year-old Jack and his big sister Amelia when they're magically transported onto a pirate ship headed out on a treasure hunt. After the captain discovers the two stowaways, it looks like their journey will be a short one, but Amelia's quick thinking just as a legendary octopus approaches the ship earns her and Jack appointments as deck hands. Always the impulsive one, Jack is excited to join the pirates' search for hidden treasure, but Amelia, with her highly developed sense of right and wrong and more cautious nature, is less enthusiastic. Nonetheless, the pair sets off after the pirates when they land on Skull Island, in hopes of finding the treasure before the pirates do. In the end, it will require the combined efforts of the children and the pirates to ensure that everyone gets off the island safely. Musical moments are sprinkled throughout the pirates' journey and feature both Amelia and a quirky pirate rock band called ""The Play It Real Rockers.""

This DVD features two versions of the movie: ""Captain Gruff's Favorite Movie,"" which runs an uninterrupted 50 minutes, and an interactive version in which viewers choose between multiple paths at key intervals throughout the film--there are a whopping 27 potential story combinations. The viewer's choices alter the path of the movie, sometimes only slightly and at other times so significantly that they completely change the story's outcome. No matter which path viewers choose, there are important lessons about dealing with temptation, overcoming fears, and doing what's right. The Secret of Pirate Island isn't the best pirate movie on the market, but it's entertaining and kids will love its Playmobil stars and the opportunity to guide the characters' actions. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi "

I bought this item for my grandson who loves Playmobil toys. He was very excited to see the movie and wasn't disappointed with it. I also enjoyed watching. The interactive segments are great.

I highly recommend this DVD especially for kids under 10. Entertaining and interactive too! For those who love Playmobil, it's a must buy. Christmas is right around the corner, and this would make a fantastic stocking stuffer.

Saw this in a Red box and noticed that it said "Interactive" so I got it for my son 3.5 yrs old. He was really excited to see it and had fun with the pirate theme. Even though the theme was pirates there was nothing too scary in there to make him nervous and the colors and animation were simple but not cheap.

It took him a bit to understand that when he watches it again it can change but once there he really got into it and was excited to try choosing which way to go. We do wish there was even more of the branching stories in the middle. My wife and I even got pulled into the branching story trying to figure out how many diverse paths were put on the DVD. We found ourselves trying to convince our boy to do a certain choice so WE could make sure we saw everything there. For him he just got really excited everytime a choice came up. He would scramble up off the couch standing in front of the TV and he didn't care if he chose the same one again.

Good family fun. Hope there are more to come for all sorts of age levels.

Good work!

1 out of 5 stars Painfully Bad   October 21, 2009

My boys love Playmobil and have been looking forward to this movie. I watched this with them last night and it was horrid. The music is awful. The lyrics of the main important song to the story are "la la la la la" - I'm not kidding. The animation and graphics are blocky, untextured, and really bad. The story (or what there is of a story) is just awful. It is a patchwork of roughly animated scenes where it seems the priority is to generate demand by putting different Playmobil toys on screen rather than tell an interesting story. For the age group this is targeted for, did it really need armies of the undead, a mummy, and voodoo? Yes - my kids like it. Hence the 1 star - not because they liked it, but becuase it can be a lesson that just becuse they like something does not mean that it is good. And this is not good. I will continue to buy Playmobil toys (they are great) and let my kids play the on-line games (which are a lot of fun). But please don't think that because Playmobil toys are high-quality that this movie will be. It's not even a movie - it's a low quality, toy advertisement that shows no creativity. Look for it in the $1.99 bin after Christmas.
