Product Description
***NEW*** - Winner of the 2009 Top Choice and Seal of Excellence awards at Creative Child Magazine! Join your child on a learning adventure in Numbers and Counting! MathTutorDVD.com has created the Young Minds series of DVDs to introduce young children to the joys of learning Math at a young age. This DVD in Numbers and Counting teaches young children to count from 1 to 10 by way of engaging classical music, photographs, and video. Each number is presented with photographs, video, and animation. Numbers are animated to fly-in from off screen and show the child how to count by counting objects that they are naturally interested in. Animals such as frogs, horses, jellyfish, sharks, whales, and more are shown to the viewer along with the animal sounds. Colors are also taught by pointing out the color of objects on screen. Here is a sampling of what your child will learn: - Variety of animals along with animal sounds - Fruits and vegetables along with their colors - Machines that move such as trucks, airplanes, etc, along with the sounds that they make. - Everyday objects such as crayons, toys, etc. The central idea of this video is to teach children numbers and counting while at the same time teaching them the names of animals, machines, and other objects along with their associated sounds and colors. This integrated learning approach keeps children interested, promotes continued learning, and stimulates their young minds. Guaranteed! The entire DVD is set to rousing classical music pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Brahms, Vivaldi, Pachelbel, & More! Lights, colors, action November 22, 2009 Amanda Richards (Georgetown, Guyana) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This video introduces the concept of numbers and counting in a child-friendly manner, using animals, colors, sounds and music. The photographs were nice, by and large of good stock photo quality and the music wasn't jarring (a definite positive) but none of the children I tested it on remained interested for very long and it took several sessions to play the disc to completion.
The younger ones (9 months to 18 months) were engaged by the live action sequences, the animals and their sounds, and the bright colors. The two year olds also loved the animals, especially the ones they already knew, and also the trucks and airplanes. Both groups got distracted around the number four, but would wander back whenever something caught their attention.
The four year olds weren't particularly interested, as they had already covered it all in school. (In my country, many children are already attending play groups at age three, and by four they have entered the regular school system) One four year old was very interested until he realized that there wasn't a story, and went off to watch Bob the Builder instead.
My experiences are obviously not typical, and results will vary depending on the child. It didn't do it for me, but it's easy to see how this video could be helpful in introducing young children to numbers and counting, while at the same time teaching animal sounds, colors and so much more.

One of the Best November 2, 2009 V. Bondarenko Probably one of the best DVDs because its not like other learning DVDs I've seen that seem to promote attention deficit disorder instead of learning ability.
Great Tool for Learning! October 22, 2009 Lisa Barthuly (Mount Rainier, WA) Young Minds is a great DVD for assisting in the teaching of numbers & counting for little ones--in an engaging manner! My son loves all the pictures and images of 'frogs', 'trucks' etc--and counts along with the DVD and identifies the numbers/objects/images. I like that this DVD uses real images and real music in the backround, rather than cartoon characters, loud noise, and gibberish in images that go 1000 mph! If they are going to watch something on 'the screen' make it something of worthwhile substance that teaches them something good! Young Minds is a winner in our homeschool family, we've really enjoyed it and see results!!
Wonderful DVD to grow with. October 16, 2009 Whitney Baugh (Alabama) Let me be completely honest- I dislike math. I really, truly dislike it- more than any other subject. Compared to math, I adore literature, science, and history. I never want my son to feel the same. I hope he will enjoy math as much as other subjects. For this reason, when we were asked to review the Numbers and Counting DVD by Young Minds, I gladly accepted.
While he isn't old enough to grasp the concept, we have viewed the DVD. I am very excited to say that I can see us using this DVD in the coming years. The entire program is set to music like Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart which holds Bryson's attention like you wouldn't believe. The thing I really love about Numbers & Counting is that it also helps teach colors, sounds of everyday items like trains, and animals. I am truly amazed at all this little DVD has packed into it and how well it flows. The little boy's voice is also the cutest thing ever- I love the way he says "helicopter!"
I cannot say enough good things about the Numbers and Counting DVD. I think it will a huge asset to our learning routine. As a bonus, there are puzzles, connect the dots, and guess the animal games.
Math Tutor Young Minds - Numbers and Counting DVD for Toddlers October 7, 2009 K. Coutu (MA) (PLEASE NOTE: I RECEIVED A SAMPLE DVD TO WRITE THIS REVIEW)
I have always been a fan of educational programming and DVDs. They have been a great way to supplement anything I had been working on with my oldest son, whether it was the alphabet, colors, counting, etc . . . Now with the twins, I must rely even more on such tools to reinforce what I try to teach them because it is extremely difficult to get quiet one on one time with each one. This is why I welcomed the chance to try out the new Math Tutor: Young Minds-Numbers and Counting DVD.
What I thought about this Numbers and Counting DVD for toddlers:
1) I like that this DVD uses a variety of objects to illustrate each number. Chances are that there will be something that your child will show an affinity towards. These objects include animals, foods, transportation vehicles, and more.
2) The benefits of this DVD are not limited to learning about numbers and counting to 10. Other concepts taught by this DVD are sounds, colors, and action words.
3) Although my toddlers were most excited when they saw objects that they recognized, I like that the DVD includes things that may be new to a toddler, such as windmills, jellyfish, and asparagus. This just offers more opportunity for learning.
4) In addition to pointing out the things they recognized, my toddlers liked imitating the animal sounds.
5) The classical music in the background included works by Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, and more. Although the music was beautiful, it was secondary to the visual content, which was the only thing holding my toddlers' attention.
6) Because the twins can only count up to 3, every number after 4 lost a little more of their attention. I expect this to change each time we watch the DVD as they become more adept at remembering and recognizing additional numbers.
