Great Series--Lousy Price November 5, 2009 Thomas Yotka (Santa Monica, USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Once again the US version of a beloved series comes out at a "milk 'em and run" price. If you have an all region player don't hesitate to buy the UK Region 2 version of this landmark program for about $40!!!!!! (currently on sale from Amazon.co.uk for 24.98 pounds). $149.95 list price for the American version?!?!?!? you've got to be kidding!
Big Barry October 7, 2009 Barry Champney (Massapequa Park, NY USA) For many years I had tried to find this series on VHS. It was available in England for about $280 ten years ago. To find it on Amazon in DVD format, so inexpensive was a wonderful surprise. I loved the series when it was on originally. I loved the book when it was published. To be able to hear Dr. Bronowski explain dogma, as he stands in the mud made from the ashes of his heritage at Auschwitz, is the most powerful presentation of Man's corruption of Power that I have ever seen. To see the development of Mankind through the prism of Science is an amazing accomplishment by Dr. Bronowski. He does this with a level of excitement and personal awe of those before him, many of whom we will never know. I LOVE this series and enjoy every moment of Dr. Bronowski's revelations.
Excellent Series July 17, 2009 Douglas Sheard (Quebec, Canada) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have known this since it was first presented by the BBC and am so pleased to be able to see it again and share it with my family. Dr. Bronowski is a brilliant man and a great presenter of the history of mankind.

I watched this series about 30 years ago. It is as fresh as it was then. Outstanding!

Life Changing June 29, 2009 Kevin Lofaso 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I saw this series when it originally aired--I suppose it must have been about 1973. I was 11 years old. It absolutely changed my life and has stayed with me all these years. I see comments here that it is solid meat for high-school or college-age kids; but I experienced in it the splendor of the connectedness of ideas, and the wonder of human intellect and accomplishment, when I was in grade school. I went on to read others of Bronowski's books, read about his famous debate with Bertrand Russell, and have been deeply influenced by his profound humanity. Even now, just looking at the names of episodes in Ascent of Man, I find I remember those individual episodes though I have not seen this series for more than 30 years. They made a huge impact that surpasses everything I read by or about Bronowski since.
I've been looking for Ascent of Man on film for...years. How lucky we are to have it available. There's a (soon to be treasured) copy with my name on it.
