5 out of 5 stars Jason Gibson and MathtutorDVD's are amazing!   August 31, 2009
Miss Pam (South Florida USA)
We are a homeschool family and use these DVD's. My oldest daughter has gone from this DVD to Advanced Calculus in a little less than 2 years. Here's what she said: "The course was easy to comprehend and pretty much, the courses all flowed into each other. Once I stopped working with this DVD, for example, and started working in Algebra workbooks, I understood the workbooks completely." She is 14 years old. Thanks, Jason!

3 out of 5 stars Maybe   August 29, 2009

I was happier with the problems on the video, didnt really need the companion worksheet cd too but it helped me soldify it in mind, some of the problems were awnsers were missing on the worksheet. It breaks down like this there are problems you do and then there is a step to step procedure on how to solve them also. I Dont think its worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars This DVD simply works...   August 5, 2009

...if you can focus your attention on the actual topic being covered as oppose to being distracted by the overall video/audio quality. I purchased this DVD along with the Algebra II DVD from Jason and after two weeks of watching these DVDs back to back, my algebra was refreshed. Let's take a step back for a second. I haven't taken a math course since high school, and that was ten years ago. All the math that I took have long since been forgotten. That's until Jason's DVD came in to place. After watching "Fractions Thru Algebra!" and "Algebra II" both by Jason and part of the Math Tutor DVD product line, I feel confident enough to take my college math assessment exam.

Suffice to say, I placed myself into Intermediate Algebra by simply committing two weeks to watching these DVDs. And that's with 10 years of mathematical abstinence. I've said it once and I'll say it again. Jason's program works and 2 weeks of commitment saved me literally months, if not years of taking remedial prerequisite math courses AND hundreds, if not thousand of dollars in tuition.

I've been a failure at math all through my academic life. I've tried books, "made easy" guides, web tutors, etc. They all didn't work for ME. Jason's DVDs just simply works and I have my assessment results to prove it.

5 out of 5 stars Fire my high school math teachers   May 23, 2009
Michael A. Rogers (Fort Campbell, KY)
All throughout high school I struggled with math. I always thought that it must simply be a subject I wasn't meant to understand. Twelve years later I've decided to begin college. I bought this DVD in hopes of doing well on the placement exam. I couldn't be more happy with Jason Gibson's Fractions Through Algebra. His delivery of the material is factual and straightfoward. He is easy to follow and always builds on the previous lessons, moving at a comfortable pace to more advanced material. I had no idea algebra could be so simple. I have learned more in one week with this DVD than I did in thee high school math classes.
The DVD seems to be VHS quality, but for the knowledge it contains I will gladly accept a less than crisp recording.

1 out of 5 stars Mistakes abound - will do more harm than good. Math teacher warns stay far away from this!   April 8, 2009

I am a math teacher and math tutor, and I decided to try this video to see if it might be something I could recommend for a student to use at home. I simply cannot believe all of the mistakes that are made in this video.

I only looked at the Fractions section, as I couldn't bring myself to suffer through anymore of the poor presentations and downright wrong descriptions of steps and mathematical concepts.

For example, the presenter demonstrates 6/12 by drawing a circle, then dividing it into two equal parts, then four equal parts, then eight equal parts, then...he finally realizes that he's not going to be able to divide the circle into 12 equal parts (he would've needed to divide the circle into thirds at first). He leaves the drawing as it is and proceeds to add one more line to divide two of the 1/8th sections into four 16ths and tells the viewer to just imagine that all of the sections are of equal size!!! Why not just film this section again using a correct drawing instead of leaving this blatantly wrong example for students to try and "figure out"? Unfortunately the list of mistakes continues, one after the other...

As this video is marketed to those who are seeking a "Math Tutor" and obviously want/need help with their math, there is absolutely no excuse for these kinds of mistakes. The only good thing I can say about this video is that I'm glad I borrowed it from the library instead of investing real money to purchase it. One star is too high a rating, but zero was not an option.
