Product Description This book is designed to help teachers implement the marvelous power of TI-nspire in the teaching of Algebra I. Keying sequences are provided to help students acquire the concepts of elementary algebra in a step-by-step fashion, while progressing smoothly through the menus of this exciting new technology. Worked examples and comprehensive sets of exercises with complete solutions are provided. Screen displays enable students to connect their work to the examples in the text. On completing this book, students will have been exposed to all the important concepts in the first semester of Algebra I and will understand how to use graphs, spreadsheets and the calculator commands to solve real-world problems. The 32 Explorations in this text are as follows: Topic: From Arithmetic to Algebra 1. The Natural Numbers (primes and composites) 2. Greatest Common Denominator and Least Common Multiple 3. From Integers to Fractions & Real Numbers 4. Unknowns & Variables: Entry into Algebra 5. Computing with Mathematical Formulas 6. Formulas and their Inverse Formulas Topic: Linear Equations & Inequalities 7. Using Tables to Solve Linear Equations 8. Using Algebra to Solve Simple Linear Equations 9. Using Algebra to Solve Compound Linear Equations 10. Solving Proportions 11. Manipulating Formulas by Solving Equations 12. Linear Inequalities in One Variable Topic: Functions & Relations 13. Cartesian Coordinates & Scatter Plots 14. Cartesian Coordinates & Graphs 15. Functions as Input-Output Machines 16. Reading and Interpreting Graphs 17. Functions & Relations as Sets of Ordered Pairs 18. Sequences & Scatter Plots Topic: Linear Functions 19. The Concept of Slope 20. Direct Variation 21. Partial Variation 22. Formulas for the Equation of a Line 23. Parallel & Perpendicular Lines 24. Linear Functions 25. Using Linear Functions to Model Data Topic: Linear Systems 26. Solving a Pair of Linear Equations by Graphing 27. Solving a Pair of Linear Equations by Substitution 28. Equivalent Linear Systems 29. Solving a System using Linear Combinations 30. | Customer Reviews: This is Fun and Full of suprises all while playing with the TI nspire CAS February 20, 2009 Fred Child Wendell (Dryden, NY United States) The TI nspire CASTi-nspire Cas Graphing Calcis a powerful and versatile tool. Algebra 1 with the TI -nspire works through carefully selected problems to help the student integrate the concepts with the visual and graphic algebraic expressions. Some very intersting math history is brought in certain chapters ie. Isaac Newton, Leibniz, and Euler to name a few. This helps to make the ideas personal. Real people worked on these ideas in real time. This also surrenders a low level sense of the power of mathematics in shaping our society/history.Finally the problems are fun to do. Fred C Wendell
