Product Description
Now in paperback! The New York Times bestseller and war memoir from the commander of the legendary Band of Brothers––now with a new preface from Dick Winters.

They were called Easy Company—but their mission was never easy. Immortalized as the Band of Brothers, they suffered 150% casualties while liberating Europe—an unparalleled record of bravery under fire. Winner of the Distinguished Service Cross, Dick Winters was their legendary commander. This is his story—told in his own words for the first time.

On D-Day, Winters assumed leadership of the Band of Brothers when its commander was killed and led them through the Battle of the Bulge and into Germany—by which time each member had been wounded. Based on Winters’s wartime diary, Beyond Band of Brothers also includes his comrades’ untold stories. This is a moving memoir by the man who earned the love and respect of Easy Company—and who is a hero to new generations worldwide.

5 out of 5 stars Very good and educational.   October 27, 2009
David L. Lynch (Henryville, Indiana United States)

Dick Winter's Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memories of Major Dick Winters is an exceptional look at three extremely interesting and important subjects in American History and everyday life:
1) America's role in the Second World War, 2) one man's journey through the war, and lastly, 3) the subject of leadership.

I really enjoyed this stirring book mainly because Dick Winters, who commanded Easy Company, or better known as The Band of Brothers, presents his memories of the war in Europe through his first-person account, with a very humble and yet truthful attitude about himself and what he did to make the Band of Brothers what they were.

This book does not give you the "cookie cutter" leadership plan, because quite honestly, there isn't one. But the author does do a wonderful job explaining how to lead and what a good leader should be.

Although this book has some very action-filled and dramatic parts, it isn't a book for those who are wanting an action-packed read,
but would be very useful for anyone in a leadership position who wants some tips and advice.

All and all, I feel it is a very good book that I really liked reading and would recommend to others interested in World War Two, The Band of Brothers, and good leadership.

4 out of 5 stars My grandparents' generation continues to amaze me   October 23, 2009

Major Dick Winters lead Easy Company from the marshes of Normandy to Bavaria and eventually Austria. What this group of men did during the Second World War is nothing short of a miracle. Maj. Winters writes mostly about his men and only rarely refers to himself. What glimpses he does give us shows what a remarkable leader and man of character he was and still is today. We all owe the men of Easy Company and everyone who fought in The War every bit of respect and gratitude they have earned.

I had already seen the HBO special "Band of Brothers" which helped form some of the context for this book. While reading or watching "Band of Brothers : E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne from Normandy to Hitler's Eagle's Nest" isn't required to enjoy this book, you might want to order it at the same time to get a broader sense of Easy Company.

5 out of 5 stars Great follow up to Band of Brothers   October 9, 2009

My husband is a history buff and read three books on our Mediterranean cruise three weeks ago. This was one of them. He could hardly put it down to enjoy the sea.

5 out of 5 stars Beyond Band of Brothers   August 21, 2009

From the first time I saw the DVD series I was facinated with Dick Winters. I was most apprecitive when I found that he had written a book and expounded on his life and experiences during WWII. I have great respect for all of the heroes who entered that terrible time when the world was at war and democracy hang in the balance. I was riveted to Major Winters life story from his early years and upbringing which help shape him as a young man entering into a military life that at first he wasn't sure he wanted but later embraced it.

A natural born leader with integrity, character and moral backbone. I appreciated his direct, clear dissection of the battles he was involved in and the relationships with his men during these time. I felt he was very truthful and forthright as he laid out both the good and bad he saw in men and situations.

You will not want to put this book down until you finish it.
