Can be quite difficult...yet plenty for your $ November 21, 2009 Howard L Lambert (Lemoore, California United States) HALF LIFE 2, as far as combat is concerned (there's a lot), is really difficult on "medium", so I had to switch to "easy" in order to finish the game. Unfortunately, HL2 doesn't have quite as many puzzles as HL1 and they're far less difficult (I never had to look up any walkthrough/cheats in HL2). However, the graphics were very immersive on my dual Radeon X1950/Crossfire rig and it was fun just from a sightseeing POV. Other than the basic virus/conspiracy story carried over from HL1, I had no idea what was going with the dialogue/drama between the father and daughter...slightly annoying, but doesn't matter as far as gameplay. (Far Cry is still my overall favorite FPS, yet.)
PORTAL is just a really fun and immersive single player puzzle game. I absolutely loved it. Even I made it through the whole game, without cheating, in just a few hours (and I'm pretty much a total dumbass)...then, a year later, I played it all the way through again!....AND I NEVER PLAY A GAME TWICE!
TEAM FORTRESS 2 has the most amazing comic style graphics (like something you'd expect from Disney or Warner Brothers), but I guess I'm just not the type that cares that much for character detail/abilities. I played it online and realized, unlike it's predecessors, I had to actually study what all the characters can do before playing...nah. Anyway, just like those before it, this online team shooter becomes a mildly satisfying, blurry/chaotic frenzy of bullets, explosions and bullets.
Steam hasn't been an issue at all. It installed flawlessly and, aside from an advertisement when you quit playing, it doesn't bother me or my system.
Great game November 15, 2009 Leon Kirton (Travelling) Great game. Only problem is it takes ages to download so that is one BIG negative but game itself makes up for any flaw.
Awesomely Unorthodox November 14, 2009 D. Eisinger (Chicago, IL USA) First I will say that not only were the physics in the game the thing that stood out to me most, it also amazed me how the developers PLANNED for you to take advantage of these things. Walking across the slanting girders beneath a railway bridge while being shot at was definitely the highlight of the game (along with the organic gravity gun, of course. Who could resist the awesomeness of picking Combine troops up and flinging them wherever?).
It's a great shooter as well, with a pretty decent story. It'd be nice if Gordon Freeman (your character) was capable of speaking at least a little, but it works well enough as is. The very beginning and very ending leave you sort of wondering what weird dimensional things they're trying to pull, and it doesn't make too much sense. That, however, is likely the point, and to be fair I haven't played Episode One or Two yet. Perhaps that's resolved later.
Favorite gun: Magnum .357
Favorite map: Highway 17
Favorite NPC character: Eli Vance
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
Best deal ever October 31, 2009 K. Lamont (SLC) Team fortress 2 is one of the funnest games ever made. Half-life 2 is great too. Havn't tried portal yet. It did take a while to install, but you'll get over it. Steam has always worked fine for me. I can't really say anything negative about it at all. Great package.
Happy September 29, 2009 S. L. Reading Had a lot of fun playing. It is full of puzzles to be worked out, and bad guys to kill.
