 Great accessory for travel photography December 2, 2009

Saw other reviews that complained about bending pins and having to be too careful inserting cards (specially CF cards). Ordered product in spite of these reviews, because the product had the most appropriate features I was looking for. I am so happy I did! The Photo Safe worked marvelously. If you can't be careful inserting cards, then you're probably not used to working with expensive and delicate photography equipment. Of course you shouldn't be inserting anything while bouncing around rugged terrain or in bad weather, but that's just common sense. I used the device on a cruise in the Carribean. Due to limited carry-on space, in addition to my cameras and lenses, I took only four 2GB cards with me and added the Digital Foci PST-251 Photo Safe II 160GB Digital Picture Storage. This turned out to be more economical and efficient than buying larger GB cards. Having the Safe allowed me to shoot JPEG and RAW without worrying about insufficient storage. After each excursion, I went back to my cabin and downloaded all 2 to 4 of my cards to the Safe, then formatted the cards to be used again. All while cleaning and preparing my equipment for the next use, as I always do. When I got home, I downloaded just over 45GB of images - way more than would have fit on four 2GB cards and just under 1/3 of the Photo Safe's actual capacity (133GB according to the "available hard drive space" function). I am extremely happy with the quality of the stored images and recommend it for travel. I've since used it for several of it's other functions; such as data and image storage, data and image transfer, etc.

This things SUCKS. It DOES NOT WORK and you will LOSE YOUR IMAGES. If you're not fighting with it to even connect to your computer you WILL be fighting with it when you bend the pins trying to insert a CF card into the ridiculous slot that has no guides. Better hope you get that right EVERY SINGLE TIME or you screwed! The the battery dies right when you need it so if the first two don't get you that definitely will. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

I purchased this product about a month ago and it worked GREAT. I constantly shoot in RAW so a product like this is a must. Just not this product. I used it three times and it was toast. The slot where you slide your CF card into is very shallow so if you do not line it up exactly perfect when you put your card in, you will bend the pins inside and then you just turned it into an electrical paper weight because that's all its good for now. If you do decide to buy this item, keep your receipt! You just may find yourself returning it!

I went on a school trip to Spain for a little over a week, and rather than buy a couple CF cards, I purchased this drive. And it's a good thing I did; when I came home, I had taken 40GB worth of pictures. RAW files take up a lot more space than JPEG files do, but I wanted the flexibility in postprocessing that the RAW format offers. I had read the reviews about the battery life so I backed up my card and charged my drive every night I was in Spain, so I had no such problems.
Also, my current CF reader has a tendency to corrupt image files every once in a while, but I had no such problem with this drive. Over 3,000 images I took, and not a single one corrupted. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want a color LCD for reviewing pics, but it's a fantastic value for the space it's offering. I was even able to help out my friend when she filled up her own SD card and couldn't find a store that sells them right away. All in all, very pleased with this purchase.

This is my second drive that bougth (first one was the erlier version) and both hava had failures eather wile tranfering from CF to Disk and Disk to computer. Use it as a backup, but never relay on this product to put your precios photos and delete them from te CF, you may have a terrible experience like me
