4 out of 5 stars awsome   March 17, 2010

This nintendo case is awsome looking. My nephew loves it an it protects his DS.

4 out of 5 stars Great protection   March 12, 2010
Hosta-Haven (DeForest, WI USA)
If you've purchased your child a Nintendo DS, you need to get Nerf Armor for it. We got a different hard plastic case originally and it broke in short order.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent protection for your DS!   March 10, 2010
Kristine A. Nicholas (Boston, MA USA)
We bought this for my son's DS right after we got the DS itself. After being dropped multiple times, his DS still works (and looks) like new. Friends whose children bought their DS at the same time as my son have had to deal with breakages.

This item is worth every penny. If we were to get another portable game system, we would not let our child use it until it had Nerf Armor on it!

5 out of 5 stars DS Lite Nerf Armor   March 8, 2010
Summer (Vermont, USA)
My son is young and is rough on electronics. This case is a life saver. It is well worth the cost for someone who drops things all the time. Makes the DS bigger so it doesn't fit in other cases well with the cover on but we found it best just to use the nerf cover. Also makes the DS a little easier to hold onto for smaller hands.

1 out of 5 stars Virtually IMPOSSIBLE to take off once it's on!   March 3, 2010
Kirk A. Campbell (Denver, CO USA)
I would only recommend this product to a child who's prone to dropping or throwing around their DS, as its main purpose is to basically encase the system in a large, heavy, foam bubble for protection against just that type of activity. This isn't for an older gamer who's only interest is to protect the DS from normal wear and tear as much as possible. For that purpose, I would recommend the System Glove.

For one thing (and as I alluded to before), this product is pretty heavy and somewhat bulky. It will weigh down the top portion of the DS system so much that it'll make the hinges become very loose over a (somewhat) short period of time if you play it regularly. And once it's on, you will no longer be able to place your system in a standard DS carrying/travel case. Now, that wouldn't seem like such a big deal, seeing as you could just say 'take it off before you put it in the travel case'. EXCEPT...

The BIGGEST drawback of this product, and what makes it so ridiculously terrible, is that once you hear it snap on, it basically merges itself with the DS. I'm not kidding - it's virtually IMPOSSIBLE to take off once it's on without damaging the case, the DS, or both. I can't understand why on Earth a company would make a product that's supposed to protect a game system, without proper instructions on how to put it on and take it off without damaging the system it's designed to protect (this product doesn't have ANY instructions). It's like Nerf WANTS you to damage your DS. I suppose the purpose of making it so difficult to take off is so that it doesn't just pop out if it's dropped or thrown. But I have to believe that a smarter person could have designed a better product with some type of release latch that would have kept the DS in the armor if dropped or thrown, but still managed for the armor to be easily removed if and when it was needed (i.e. when placing the system in a travel case). I wound up having to snap and break as much of the armor's plastic I could in order to ultimately remove it from the system. I figured if it was boiling down to the case or the DS, the DS wins hands down. Fortunately, I got the system out unscathed. But I've read and heard some horror stories from other customers who bought this product and said they severely damaged their DS trying to take the armor off, and I can believe it.

Now, in fairness, there are a few places online (such as YouTube) that have videos on how to remove the armor more safely without damaging it or the DS (I discovered this after I already tore it off). But it's still not as simple as it should be, and really that just makes this product even MORE frustrating. Why should you have to go online to figure it out? Had they simply included a small paper with proper instructions on how to safely place on/remove the armor, I would probably give it a better rating. At that point, it's only drawback would be its shape and weight. As it stands, however, it's a flat-out AWFUL product.

But really...the truth is unless you're buying this for a young child to protect his/her DS, it's just unnecessary. Yeah, you may drop your DS once in a while from about 2-3 feet, but that type of fall will unlikely do much (if any) damage to the system. This product is designed specifically for heavy duty falls and physical abuse, which I *suppose* could be a positive in the armor's favor. And I guess if you're one who's fine with a loose DS top and one that doesn't care if it can be removed easily, then you wouldn't mind this product so much. But if you're an older gamer who's simply looking to protect your DS from minor damage resulting from regular usage, the System Glove is a better way to go.
