Product Description Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 PC
Amazon.com Product Description
Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series. View larger. | Story The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs. Gameplay The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them. Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches. Special Ops Co-op Mode Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality. Key Game Features - Challenging Multiplayer Modes – Modern Warfare 2 will contain a wealth of multiplayer modes including: the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy."
- Improved AI Enemies – Improved artificial intelligence now allows enemies to attack from virtually any direction as players respawn into the game adding additional challenges.
- An All-new Call of Duty Adventure - Modern Warfare 2 features an all new Call of Duty storyline revolving around the continuing struggles against the Russian rebel group the Ultranationalists, who have found a new and more dangerous leader.
- The 'Special Ops' Optional Co-op Mode – "Special Ops" Mode allows two players, either alone or with a friend, to engage in unique mission play and features split-screen functionality.
- Diverse In-game Environments - Battlegrounds traversed in the game range from the lonely, snow-clad mountains of Kazakhstan, to dark tunnels in the Afghanistan and the crowded slums of Rio.
- Nonstop Action - Modern Warfare 2 contains no cutscenes, so players are always engaged in the action, no matter where they are in the game.
- New Breach Gameplay Mechanic - Players can now blaze their own paths through the game by "Breaching" formerly impregnable obstacles like walls and doors with explosives.
- New Gadgets, Weapons and Weapons System Modern Warfare 2 contains many new and updated weapons, new weapons attachments, as well as a variant of the multiplayer weapons customization system from Call of Duty 4, now available in the single player campaign.
- New Perks and Increased Customization - Multiplayer modes feature new perks for leveling up, and for killstreaks and deathstreaks. Those awarded for streaks can customized in advance according to when they become available.

Seems I disagree with most about this game. November 24, 2009 M. Richardson (Sacramento, CA United States) I have not read all the reviews for this game because there are just too many, but most of the ones I have read complain a lot about 2 things, 1) multiplayer and 2) shortness of campaign. Well, I do not buy video games for multiplayer so I will ignore that aspect of the game. The campaign is pretty short though. I am not at all an expert gamer, and I finished it in about 10 hours. But at the same time, for me there is plenty of replayability. I played it on the lowest difficulty setting, meaning I can still try it again at the higher levels later on, and I know I will.
All in all I think it is a really good game. The graphics are awesome, it runs nice and smooth on my computer, the story, while short is pretty intense. I wont do any spoiling but many aspects of the story I did not see coming and I was very pleased with how it all unfolded. The only thing I will say is that I am sure there will be a Modern Warfare 3 and I will await that eagerly. So, if you are a top notch expert gamer, then maybe this is not enough for you, but for someone like me, this is a good addition to the overall series and I can see myself replaying many times. I got it right away and paid the $60 but you know it will be coming down in cost soon and you may just want to wait and get it then.
poor multiplayer system November 24, 2009 E. Figueroa 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
They killed this game by taking away the most important part of the game, the multiplayer or dedicated servers.
COD will never be the same. Ever.
Shame on you.
IW Ruins CoD Series for PC Gamers with CoD:MW2. November 24, 2009 Tylergnitz (New England, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have played and purchased every Call of Duty game for PC since it's beginnings. After learning what Infinity Ward has done to the PC version of their newest, Modern Warfare 2, I cannot recommended this for any PC gamer.
Dedicated servers are what make PC gaming what it is. I want to play in communities, not against random players even if they are skill-level matched. Like others have said in the past, Infinity Ward has taken Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (one of the best multiplayer tactical FPS) and completely ruined it with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
Many friends of mine play xbox and PS3, which I have played CoD MW:2 on. I must agree that the game is beautiful and thoughtfully put together. More features than CoD4.
Even with that said, I cannot recommended this game if you intend to play it on PC. I played and continue to play CoD4, since its release, BECAUSE of its dedicated server capability. And for the same reason I will not play CoD MW:2.
Single player short but fun--disappointing Multiplayer November 24, 2009 John (WI USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The MW2 single player is fun, graphic, intense, but short. Graphics are excellent. Alot of interesting modern weapons UAV's, miniguns, etc. Before you start the game, you are advised to complete the single player missions before venturing out into the multiplayer realm. Good thing they advised this or otherwise they would have only gotten one star cause I would not have bothered to try the single after feeling cheated on multiplayer.
The multiplayer game is not living up to expectations. No server selection? Largest player capacity on a map is 18? About as much fun as laser tag in a 10x10 room. I think Delta Force from the 90's allowed more players. Where are the big maps? Vehicles? Tanks? These games are all about multiplay. Hopefully they will release an Apology Patch 2.0.
The good about multiplayer? Well the weapon mods and choices are cool. Alot of call sign options, killstreak bonuses, challenges and rank give you a goal but with so few choices as to how to score up I don't think I can last that long.
If I had tossed $30 at it I would have probably lowered my expectations and ponied up more stars...but $60? Noooope. ROI is weak. My advise is to wait until it makes its way a little closer to the bargain bin or end cap.
Modern Meh. November 23, 2009 E. T. Majid (USA) Give credit where its due so I'll get the good out of the way first: as a shoot-em-up experience, Modern Warfare 2 is good. Very enjoyable as far as the gunplay is concerned. Tight controls coupled with a fun array of weaponry is sure to delight any shooter fan. With sharp-looking graphics and good sound, the action is non-stop. But nearly everything else about the game is one big pile of Fail.
Story: What story? Early COD games had really interesting narratives. Even the first Modern Warfare had an entertaining story - missions progressed in a sensible manner. Too much of Modern Warfare 2's mission progression relies on leaps of faith - urging the player to accept one set-piece action sequence after the other for the sake of blowing shhtuff up. It is worth repeating that the set-pieces aren't necessarily bad! I liked the locales and the action, but JEEBUS gimme a coherent story. Peering underneath the mess at the core storyline you get the sense that the writers had a decent Tom Clancy-ish concept, but either they were under too much pressure from the publisher to rush the product out the door or they all collectively suffered from the Lucas Effect. By the Lucas Effect I mean that they realized Modern Warfare 2 was to the other Call of Duty games what the Star Wars prequels were to the original trilogy; You could put out garbage and still make enough money to rival a small nation's GDP. Great job with the marketing Activision. Seriously.
Gameplay: Third time repeating myself, but its not that bad. While the controls and core mechanics all feel very refined - all the other elements do not come together well enough for me to write home about. Its the same old stuff under the same old engine (more on this later). a mad rush of enemies - you'll hug the ground or the nearest cover like white on rice. One thing IW: its been almost 7 years since we first realized that you guys love grenades - time to tone it down a little.
Graphics/Game Engine: They're quite good! Actually there are three aspects which are flawless: the lighting/shaders, animation/motion-capture and the incredible texture work. While all this is well and good, I've come to expect more and more out of shooters ever since Crysis - especially where physics is concerned. MW2 feels too static and too on-the rails in certain parts. With all the firepower we get to lug around, it'd be nice to see some permanent and procedurally-generated destruction. And gibs. Gibs are good.
Sound: PHENOMENAL! with a good surround system, this game is an orchaestral ballet of whizzing bullets and tense radio chatter. The music is a step below what Modern Warfare offered, but in no way is it bad. The music ranges from dramatic action suites to truly emotional notes - especially when you witness things like Washington DC en flambe.
Multiplayer: This is where the game fails completely - and I'm repeating what many others have already written about. For a game whose campaign is over in a ludicrous 4 to 5 hours, you expect a tonne from the multiplayer. At least an experience that rivals the original, even if it doesn't surpass it. Sadly, with the numerous restrictions and downgrades, MW2 will just leave you angry that you spent 60 dollars on it. For the PC that is unjustified. Not when fantastic games like Dragon Age Origins that can easily take 75 hours to finish are available for about 39.99. Okay so I'm comparing apples to oranges. If multilplayer is your thing, do yourself a favor and either wait for Bad Company 2 (which looks much more promising) or grab a copy of Left 4 Dead 2, which is oodles of fun.
Bottom line: I hope this is a misstep that Infinity Ward corrects with the inevitable Modern Warfare 3. They've made some remarkable shooters in the past. For 60 bucks I, at the very least, expect a campaign that lasts longer and a multiplayer component that doesn't feel like a downgrade. Also, they need to work on the story. The jump from the Taskforce 141 missions to the all out US invasion was so ridiculously paper-thin its not even funny. It pains me to say this but Modern Warfare 2 is more than a little overhyped.
