Follow-up game to 2007's critically acclaimed Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, the PlayStation 3 exclusive Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a continuation of the adventures of Nathan Drake, a fortune-hunter with a shady reputation and an even shadier past. Chock full of all the action, adventure, cinematic story elements and beautiful graphics that set the first game apart, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves adds deep online multiplayer options, including co-op and competitive campaigns, and a whole new supporting cast of characters, making it yet another must-have title for the PlayStation 3 platform. View larger. | Story In Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves fortune hunter Nathan Drake embarks on a journey that will push him to his physical, emotional and intellectual limits to discover the real truth behind the lost fleet of Marco Polo and the legendary Himalayan valley of Shambhala, more commonly known in the west as Shangri-La. In 1292 Marco Polo departed the court of Kublai Khan in China with 14 ships filled with over 600 passengers and crew. Eighteen months later only one ship remained and 18 passengers survived. Marco Polo never revealed what happened to these lost ships. Embarking on a quest to find the lost fleet, fortune hunter Nathan Drake soon realizes Marco Polo was hiding a much bigger secret - he had gone on a secret expedition to find the mythical kingdom of Shambhala and to recover the legendary Cintamani Stone, the "Wish-fulfilling jewel" of Buddhist mythology. With this new information Drake settles on a new course, following Marco Polo's trail through a diverse range of exotic environments. This quest also pits him against a new, more formidable adversary - a ruthless, rogue paramilitary leader with a private army and a relentless ambition to recover the stone for himself. Gameplay Although gameplay in Among Thieves is similar to that of the previous game, there are several major differences. The most important of these is the addition of several online multiplayer options. Unfortunately, no offline multiplayer could be included in the game due to the impact local split-screening has on the game's graphical quality. Thankfully though, the online modes included cover both co-op and competitive play. See the feature list below for details on these. In addition to play modes players can also expect a wealth of new gameplay features including a new stealth gameplay mechanic and altered climbing mechanic--both of which are extended to the AI of enemies; the ability to create cover by flipping over certain found items; the use of riot shields for defense and offense; and a complete lack of loading screens. Dr. Jones could get some pointers from Mr. Drake. November 24, 2009 Z. Peterson (Japan) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Never have I been so completely invested in a video game as I was with UC2. i felt all of Nathan Drake's pain and triumph in every thrilling set piece this game threw at me. Kudos to Naughty Dog for creating such a complex and somewhat imperfect hero. Please be making a sequel to this GOTY. Probably the greatest single-player campaign I have ever played...period!
Simply superb! Naughty Dog does it again! November 23, 2009 TigerDave (Temecula, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm 41 and I've been gaming since 1977. "Uncharted" was without a doubt of the best games I've ever played on any platform. (I can always attest to that statement when I find myself playing the same game from beginning to end, over and over, selecting a harder difficulty each time.)
I found that I preferred replaying "Uncharted" repeatedly while "Assassin's Creed" sat on the shelf and collected dust. Like a good book, I simply could not put it down. I found the "Uncharted" storyline so engrossing and the characters realistic (thanks in part to the great casting and voice acting).
After completing "Uncharted", I thought to myself that there was no way Naughty Dog would be able to top that with "Uncharted 2" but that didn't stop me from pre-ordering it.
Boy was I wrong.
After a total of 13 hours and 16 minutes, I finished "Uncharted 2" last night. Once the end credits started rolling, I put down the PS3 controller and thought to myself, "This game ranks right up there with 'Half-Life 2' as being worth every red cent." I look forward to playing this title repeatedly until "Uncharted 3" comes out.
If 300+ five-star reviews doesn't convince to buy this title, I don't know what to tell you.
Well done, Naughty Dog! Well done!
Linear but nice game with great graphics and control. November 23, 2009 P. Shrestha (Bham, Al, US) Graphics: 5 stars, realistic. I am from Nepal; building designs and temples are good mimic. However, cities are not blazing and nor in ruins as shown in the game only for the sake of the plot. Map/places are not exactly like that of Pokhara city but building design and signboards looks realistic with Nepali names.
Plot Storyline: 5 stars with nice humorous dialogues and story development.
Game play: 4 stars(Opponents does not notice dead bodies, its easier for players though). Linear one path game.
Control: 5 star, good control over movements but may be this game plot has linear path only one way to reach destination.
Overall: 5 star
Great game! November 22, 2009 A. Carpio (Chicago, IL) It plays just like a movie! Has great replay value because it makes you want to unlock evrerything plus the multiplayer's pretty fun if you play with your friends. It's definitely much more realistic than the first one.
Best Game The World Will Ever Know (at least until the next uncharted comes out) November 22, 2009 S. Carbaugh (California) This is by far the funnest and best, most enjoyable game on the planet!!!!! There is an awesome story to go along with it and the gameplay has tons of action. I bought this game and modern warfare 2, and this game is by far 10X better! This game is worth buying a PS3 for!
