Rosetta Stone Personal Edition contains everything you need to start learning a language. It's built around the award-winning Rosetta Stone curriculum, which has been adopted by organizations around the world including the U.S. Army, NASA, major corporations such as Deutsche Telecom, IKEA, Royal Dutch Shell, and over 10,000 schools worldwide--and is available in 31 languages spoken by over 90% of the world's population.

And, since Rosetta Stone automatically records your progress, you can easily pick up where you left off, when other priorities arise.

Dynamic Immersion - Rosetta Stone uses rich visual imagery to help you learn. You will be presented with sets of images to match correctly with a spoken or written phrase in the new language. That's language-learning success.
That's Rosetta Stone.

No translation or memorization required.

The most effective way to learn a new language is to be surrounded by it. When you were an infant, your parents taught you this way, by intuitively associating words with images. That's the ultimate language lab, but most language-learning programs completely ignore this.

Think about all of the ways you've tried to learn a language: classes at school, tapes and cassettes, even software that uses your native language as a base for your next one. What do they all have in common? Translation and memorization.

Instead of taking a "direct flight" from your brain to your new language, translation and memorization connects you to your old language. You always have to "fly" from your brain, to your native tongue ... and then translate what you've memorized to communicate.

That might work for a few words, but what happens when you get to a sentence or phrase? When you have to change tenses? You're going to make a lot of "connecting flights." That's why those other methods are so frustrating ... and why they fail.

Enter Dynamic Immersion.
This method encourages you to think like a baby. You'll pair words with vivid, real-life images and make connections between things you know and the new language. Soon, you'll be thinking in a new language, stringing words together into phrases that you create.

Innovative technology.
Rosetta Stone places this Dynamic Immersion method at the core of a suite of software that works with you to develop your skills. The simple, intuitive interface helps to keep you engaged in the solution, while advanced speech recognition technology makes certain that you're speaking correctly and accurately. Best of all, Rosetta Stone never leaves you behind. You'll only move forward when you're ready, when you've become comfortable and confident.

Communicate and connect with the world: Level 1, 2 & 3 Set.
Rosetta Stone Level 1, 2 & 3 Set will take you on a journey from the basics to a whole new level of sophistication. You'll build a foundation of fundamental vocabulary and essential language structure. You'll quickly gain the confidence to engage in social interactions. Say "hello" and "goodbye," arrange travel, order food, go shopping and more! From there, you'll share your ideas and opinions, express feelings and talk about your life, your interests and more. You'll discover a voice. In a new language.

Audio Companion
With Audio Companion, you'll enhance the Rosetta Stone experience wherever you go. You'll learn new skills on the computer, and then reinforce what you've learned with Audio Companion. Simply play the CDs on a stereo or download them to a MP3 Player. Each Audio Companion activity corresponds to a lesson in the Rosetta Stone software, so you can turn your travel time into productive language-learning time.

5 out of 5 stars Another quality offering from Rosetta Stone   November 11, 2009
M. J Lane (USA)
Like other RS products this one uses full immersion for the language-learning portion of the program. It is easy to use and allows you to "jump around" if you feel like you need to go back and review an earlier section. RS's approach is to "immerse" you in the language so you are learning it the way a native speaker would. There is no tedious memorization and, before long, you find that you begin to understand the language first and then you begin to be able to speak it--it almost sneaks up on you. This all makes the program fun to use, particularly for people who learn best by seeing or hearing but make no mistake--it is also a lot of effort. The program does create a very nice positive feedback loop where success begets success and failure circles you back until it becomes success. In short, if you stick with the program it is hard to fail.

2 out of 5 stars its ok, but it can be very frustrating, too much $$ for the value   November 6, 2009

Overall, I like this product, and find it useful, but not great. I don't believe it is worth the almost $500 I paid for it, either. Here are some of my biggest complaints:

1) Poor voice recognition. The application listens to you speak in Italian, and decides if you pronounce the words correctly. It probably has as many false negatives as it does false positives, so I'm ok with that, but what is maddening is when it tells me over and over that I pronounced a single syllable word (e.g., golf) wrong, not once, but up to 10 times in a row. I'll sit there repeating it over and over, exactly like their speaker pronounces it, and have no idea why it's being rejected.

2) no explanation for the grammatical rules. Here's an example: On one screen with Five slides, the first two are "Questo edificio e _ New York" and "Questo edificio e _ Barcellona". The user is supposed to decide if the blank is "a" or "in", and the correct answer is "a". The next slide is "Questo edificio e _ Australia". The correct answer is "in", so I assume it's because Australia begins with a vowel. The 4th slide is "Il bar e _ centro". If I use the rule I just assumed, and say the missing word is "a", I'm wrong, because RS says it is "in". So there is a grammar rule that is not obvious and never explained. How I am supposed to learn? Is the rule that you use "in" if the place is a formal name beginning with a vowel OR an plain noun? I don't know why "a" or "in" is used, and RS doesn't explain it.

3) I would like to be able to switch between using this on my desktop and my notebook, so I thought I would install the software with the data files on a flash drive. Not only did that not work, but it ran incredibly slow (don't ever install RS to a flash drive), taking many seconds between screens.

There are other issues with this software that are annoying and shouldn't be present for a product this expensive. If I want to learn another language after this, I won't use Rosetta Stone.

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time or especially money.   October 24, 2009

Having had the misfortune of being assigned to Italy by my employer, I purchased Rosetta Stone Italian 1, 2 & 3 for about $400 (on sale). I've had the product a little over two months now, and it has proven to be a complete waste of the little time I've been able to attempt to use it. For $400 (and of course the good folks at Rosetta Stone list it for more) I should not have to fight to get this program to work, to get it to recognize it's own microphone head set, and then see that headset break after one drop to the floor (approx 3 ft). I also learned while having installation problems (I thought it was the disks, but it turned out to be a common bug in Vista that causes the optical drive to stop functioning) that while Rosetta Stone maintains their own 24/7 sales phone line, their customer service/support line is limited to M-F 9am-8pm - not very appreciative of the people who've dumped a chunk of change for their product and not at all convenient if you live/work overseas. Unless you like throwing away your money in bulk, I would recommend getting a Rick Steve's phrase book/dictionary for about $15 I can say that hasn't failed me yet.

5 out of 5 stars I love Rosetta Stone!   October 14, 2009

What a terrific way to learn a language! I've used the German and Italian so far and have thoroughly enjoyed both. I received this set of CD's and everything else that comes with them in excellent condition. The shipping was quick, and I believe the seller is reputable In fact, I would absolutely buy from this seller again. As for learning a new language...I haven't found a better system than Rosetta Stone. It's easy and fun, and I was surprised at how effective their programs are. If you want or need to learn another language, I would recommend that you buy the introductory CD set for that language. It's hard for me to imagine that anyone attempting to learn a language would not benefit from this style of teaching. Not only are you learning effectively, it's really a ton of fun!! If you don't like it...that's too bad, but at least it's not a huge investment. In my opinion, if you want or need to learn another language, you can't go wrong with Rosetta Stone. Enjoy!!
