Its amazing, this thing can make a lot of thing the OS is very stable, the games are incredible, not like wii, the only thing i dont like its the internet explorer, i use it to watch anime and it works fine, even if its in .avi, it almost never fails to read a video, only fails if the codec its very weird or new.
The control battery life is very long and the range too, finally, a great machine, i recomend it!.
pD: It does read psone games, but doesnt read ps2.

If you want to do gaming only get an xbox 360. If you want to do more like surfing and want HiDef dvds then the PS3 is the way to go.
I've enjoyed playing games on my 360 but now I'm on my 3rd one, it's getting tiring and costly to replace since I don't get the Red Rings but just dead video. It's happened twice now and Microsoft won't cover it under their expanded warranty.
One thing I immediately noticed with the PS3 is the controller, it sucks compared to the 360's. Sony update this POS as soon as you can! Just copy the 360's controller, that is probably the most perfect design, EVER. And change that dang D pad to be circular so we can enjoy games like Street Fighter. Also add the ability to use rechargeable AA batteries instead of the Lithiums you use currently for those that care about the environment. Sanyo's Eneloop AA's can be recharged 1000 times compared to the paltry 400-500 times that lithiums can be. And who want to have to disassemble their controller to change a battery that goes dead?
Other than my gripes with the controller, if PS3 develops it's network I'll probably switch over exclusively to buying all PS3 games since they're basically equal to the 360 at this point.
I also love the fact that it has a wireless adapter and browser built in, you listening Microsoft?!
So if you're shopping around and are trying to decide between the 360 and PS3 you really can't go wrong with the PS3 because it offers so much. But if you ONLY want to play games and don't need wireless networking then get the 360 since the gaming experience will be better with Xbox Live and the great controller.

At $399.00 this is a good deal. The Blu-ray player alone in nearly worth that. Beautifully built, quiet, runs cool. Very happy, (and that is from a LONG time XBox360 user).

Nice blu-ray player+console but don't buy this 40Gb version at $399 unless you urgently want it. The new 80GB version was announced recently and will be available in August/September for the same price or even less if you catch a promotion. The current 40GB version is worth buying only if its price is around $300.
And boy, do I HATE Amazon now charging 8.4% NY sales tax!! I've begun shopping less here and more elsewhere.

I know the PS3 is still lagging behind the other two systems in sales and is causing Sony to lose billions of dollars in costs. Forget about those things. The Playstation 3 is THE system to buy if you're in the market for a new console. I'm not a fanboy by any means; this is the first Sony console I've owned, I was just persuaded by friends and online reviews to steer myself towards this system instead of the 360 or the Wii for various reasons.
I don't really want to get into a comparison of all the systems, but I do believe that the other systems are probably the best bet for someone out there (the Wii works best for casual gamers, for example), but for people who just love playing good, quality video games, the PS3 is the best. Part of my reason for buying this system comes from Sony's commitment to the system. If I'm going to drop several hundred dollars, I want to know my purchase will last me more than a few years, and from what Sony has said, the PS3 is here to stay through 2015. I don't know if that's quite true, but I believe it'll be here at least through 2012, given its advancements and high-technology. The 360 had a head-start, and because of that will likely bow out sooner.
To this point the PS3 still doesn't have a lot of killer aps (besides the magic that is Metal Gear Solid 4), but a search of "PS3 games" on Amazon will reveal the large amounts coming this fall, many of which I'm dying to buy.
The biggest issue I have with my PS3 (besides dropping $60 on a game, but that's another story) is the lack of reverse-compatability with PS2 games. The 40gb version has no capabilities to play them, though it WILL play all PS1 games. This is really only a problem for me since I never owned a PS2. Those of you who DO have one already can play through all of those old games, no problem. Another way to solve this is to go after the more expensive 80gb model, or even better, find an older 60gb model, which is reported to have the best engine for playing back the largest quantity of PS2 games. BUT if you don't care about backward-compatability with the PS2, this system is a good value and a great machine.
One more thing--if you are concerned about the system having too small of a HDD (and I feel it does if you plan on buying more than, say, 15 games in its lifetime), don't sweat it. You can always buy an upgrade from a computer store. It's a snap to install, and you can back up all of your data in the meantime and restore it after you're done. Just a little piece of mind.
So, to reiterate, if you're thinking of buying just ONE system, and you love playing video games for more than gimmicks, this is the system to buy. It's a beautiful system, and the built-in Bluray player is really a great bonus.
