Is it for you? October 22, 2009 Thomas Cila (Auburn, Wa) Where to start, well this game looks great. It sounds great. It's fast and frantic action will either drive you away or keep you coming for more.
If you've played any other unreal tournament game you should know what you're expecting, it's different, yes, but still very much the same. There's no real campaign or single player to speak of. It's all about the multiplayer.
There's some new features to this game that make it a little more interesting than previous titles, you can customize your character by changing from some preset armor for their head, torso, arms and legs.
Multiplayer can be very difficult if you're new and playing with other people online.
I know some people who just couldn't play online because they couldn't kill anyone, they just died, and died, and died... Finally after being frustrated beyond belief they finally just quit. So if you're not very good at first person shooters (Unless you just want to play with bots) or you can deal with dying a lot (And I mean, a lot) then I don't think this would be much fun for you and not really worth your money.
For those of you that can hold your own, many classic weapons from the past titles are still here. There's still weapons like the bio rifle, the link gun, flack cannon, the sniper rifle, rocket launcher, etc. But they've all been... Well for the lack of a better word, modernized. Everything feels much more real than previous titles, the weapons just feel like something that you can actually use in real life. Everything's also much darker, grittier and bloodier.
All in all, if you've played the previous unreal tournaments you'll pretty much feel right at home except that you should expect a much more modern, raw, and violent game. It almost feels like a close cousin to games like Gears of War. But if you haven't played this before, or you're not very good at first person shooters, this probably won't make you as happy as some other games you can buy for the same price.
Ut 3 is Awesome! September 28, 2009 Brian Martin (Houston, TX United States) Out of all the games I've ever owned, Unreal Tournament has, by far, gotten the most use. I literally play this thing every other day, jump in for a few matches, then jump out. This is pretty much an online game only, it has a single player campaign, but it really isn't what Unreal is about. I've actually purchased this for all 3 systems, PS3 and xbox to play splitscreen with friends.
If you're buying this nowadays, it's a safe bet your pc can handle it. Though I do notice a difference between my 9600 and my BFG 9800. But my 9600 runs it pretty well.
There are a couple of things they removed for no real reason, that I liked in UT2004. For one, the assault mode was kind of fun, and I wish they had included it or brought it back in their Titan pack instead of the silly greed and betrayal modes. The Titan Pack is a free expansion they released not long ago which adds a bunch of new maps and elements to the gameplay.
One huge thing I was sad to see go, as silly as it sounds, was the "Sexy Announcer" from UT2004. It was awesome to hear her approach orgasm when you'd reach a certain number of kills. Sadly, all they have is that dude beltching out MEGA KILL, ULTRA KILL, etc. While it's cool, it be nice to have the choice. They also got rid of ULTRA KILL and some other sayings and instead have things like "MASSCRE" and "ASSASIN". It sounds silly but I wish they had kept them in.
As for gameplay, nothing too much has changed from UT2004. It's a bit more polished and graphically please than it's predessesor. The gameplay is still fast and furious and relies just as much on reflexes as it does your gaming setup. There a couple of classic maps that I wished they'd bring back, and a couple of modes like Bombing Run that were just plain fun, that they removed.
Overall this is easily one of my top 5 best games of all time, and I know anyone who picks this up will be playing this thing for hours.
Nice features, but horrible single player campaign June 15, 2009 Master Sol I liked the game for it's aesthetics and maps considering it is my first Unreal. However, what is unreal is the single player campaign. You are pretty much on your own against sophisticated enemy AI (which behaves as if all of them were fitted with x-ray glasses considering it always knows where you are), while your team has the intelligence of 5 year olds. If you're looking for just a smooth single player campaign and you're not an expert at FPS games, you will end up very frustrated and disappointed with this game.
Seriously Incredible April 19, 2009 Alex 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had heard mixed reviews and opinions about UT3, but after playing it for 20 minutes I was blown away by how much fun it is and completely shocked that I got it for $15 off Amazon. I still can't believe I got it for $15, it's kind of a shame that a game that's only a year-and-a-half old is selling for so low (glad I saved money, though). It's got the same fast-paced, intense feel of UT2004, but with new vehicles and incredible graphics that make for a much more immersive experience.
Great game March 29, 2009 Carl Severtsen (Altanta, Ga USA) I used to play this game back when it was new and had a computer that could meet the minimum requirements (somehow a gforce MX 440 128mb worked) now my laptop (that's newer) doesn't have a good enough video card. So make shure your video card meets the requirements.
