A universal attachment base fits on most monitors, including flat screens. | The Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 is optimized for Windows Live Messenger, which is used by the largest worldwide instant messenger community with over 200 million users. Three key features give you a superior Windows Live Experience. First, the Windows Live Call Button makes it easy to start a video call. Simply press the button to see who's online, and you're on your way to a video call. Second, with the LifeCam Dashboard you can access video effects and control your webcam from the Windows Live Messenger window. Lastly, with One-Touch Blogging, a single click allows you to upload to Windows Live Spaces, an "online scrapbook" that lets you easily post blogs, photo albums, and personal music lists. The VX-3000's automatic face tracking software, which takes advantage of the camera's pan, tilt, and zoom controls, follows you so you don't disappear off-screen. Meanwhile, the camera automatically adjusts for low-light conditions for improved video quality, and a built-in unidirectional microphone with acoustic noise cancellation provides crystal-clear audio. Video effects give you a fun way to express yourself, and last but not least, the camera's universal attachment base fits on most monitors, including flat screens. Alternatively, the camera can sit directly on your desk. Note that while the VX-3000 is optimized for use with Windows Live Messenger, Microsoft LifeCams also work with other instant messaging programs, such as Yahoo Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger. If you want the next level of performance from your LifeCam, consider the Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000, which adds high definition video capabilities, a wide angle lens, a 3x digital zoom, and a high-speed USB connection. decent webcam with 1 tiny issue November 2, 2009 Spencer C. Frasier (colorado) i recently bought this web cam for my pc to chat on skype and make youtube videos its a great webcam easy to install easy to use great video and audio the only complain i have is when i make a vid i hear a small humm in the background that i cant get rid off but other than that its a great web cam bottom line
its a great web cam for a decent price with only 1 small issiue its still worth getting
Great Webcam October 28, 2009 Richard Perks Sr. (Las Vegas) The price was right & the quality was exceptional. I have used the camera on several video chat sites with consistently good results. I would have preferred a higher pixel density, but that would have been far more costly. This is an exceptional value.
MS Web Camera October 26, 2009 Shmuel Mendelovich (Sunnyvale, CA, USA) The camera is functioning, not so good in room light, very dificult to install it on a laptop.
Excellent with exception October 26, 2009 Rose M. Trahan The size and picture quality isn't the best - the monitor screen reflects in specs you are wearing - but guess that cannot be helped. Get non-reflective eyewear only solution.
Microsoft will drop their support for hardware when ever they want. October 24, 2009 Matt Arrington (Long Beach,CA) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Just a heads up to anyone considering buying some hardware with the Microsoft brand name. I bought a Microsoft MN-710 wireless router and network adapter a couple years back. You'd expect it to have drivers automatically install for Vista or Windows 7, right? No! There aren't any, not even for download. It's worthless and I have to replace it now and it makes me angry. I have older hardware that the companies updated their drivers, and work with Vista and Windows 7.
Buy your hardware from a hardware vendor not a software vendor. Microsoft will not care about you or your silly web cam 2-3 years from now, when you are looking for a new driver.
