Amazon.com Review "Like Maxim, but about Xbox!" was clearly the mandate given to Mike Salmon, former editor-in-chief of PC Accelerator and current editor-in-chief of The Official Xbox Magazine. He got it half right: this gamer lifestyle magazine has the locker-room feel of Maxim but lacks Maxim's intelligent, tongue-in-cheek style. The result is something that looks like it was written by high-school sophomores. For example, a bio of Kasumi, a character in the game Dead or Alive 3, reads "A redhead with a difference--she can take on all comers. And if DoA 3 has the "[breast] bounce on/off" option, she'll definitely have a lot of comers." On the plus side, the game reviews and previews are informative and mostly free of bull. --Mike Fehlauer

For the price, it's alright. October 18, 2009 Matthew T. Howell (Wooster, OH; USA) I don't want to spend much time writing this review. But anyways...
OXM is a decent magazine, comparing Amazon's price to what you pay retail, is night and day. The magazine is "definitely" not worth $8-10 per issue. The $3 or less, that Amazon charges is about where it should be. But yeah, I can't really even say this magazine is worth $3 an issue. It's about half-filled with advertising, and the other half is only about 30 pages of information that's already available on the web.
good mag.... August 17, 2009 GameFAN HCGamer (United States) usually informative... but with mags on the decline, you should subscribe to get a piece of vg history before you have to pay mad money for back issues on ebay...
just subscribe and be done with it....
Not really worth the money July 27, 2009 D. Surine (Minneapolis, MN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When you get the subscription with the demo disc, you are essentially paying an extra $1 a month for that disc on top of the $1 per issue. Neither one is worth it.
The demo disc doesn't really contain anything spectacular. Most of the demos and videos you could get from Xbox live for free. Rarely is anything "exclusive" to the demo disc, at least anything that you would find interest in. Unless you want to play absolutely every game out there, you'll probably have months where none of the demos seem that exciting to you. Sometimes there are themes and pictures that you can add to your hard drive, but nothing too exciting.
The magazine itself is mildly interesting, but a true video gamer should want to hear about all the latest video game news, not just what's available for one system. Reviews and articles are fairly well written, but I still look online to see what others are saying.
Maybe if the price were a little cheaper, this would have gotten a higher rating. But for the same price (without the demo disc) you could be reading Game Informer instead.
First issue finally arrived June 29, 2009 Kevin Dorff (Yonkers, NY USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
It seemed like it took forever for the first issue to finally arrive, but yay it did! This is a good magazine.
Okay for the weekend gamer, but.. February 23, 2009 B. Walker (Wisconsin, United States) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you love the physical aspect of magazines and you're a gamer who loves paging through and grabbing codes, reading up on the upcoming cons, the new devs, getting the monthly demo discs, and you like to read reviews and see screen shots, then this is a good buy.
If you have a good working knowledge of how to use Google, are familiar with the gamer message forums and spend much time in XBox Live, you probably already know what's in the magazine before it's been released. This was a waste of money for me, the discs rarely were anything we wanted to play (demos on XBox Live were better) and the information about game release dates was stale before we even opened up the magazine.
