5 out of 5 stars Excellent Value - but be careful where you order it from...   October 5, 2008
I purchased this package (Transcend 16GB SDHC CARD with Compact Card Reader) from Amazon.com about two months ago. The SD card was meant to be used in my Canon S5 camera. But I soon discovered that it works extremely well in the included card reader as a USB flash drive. So I ended up using it mainly for data backup and transfer between my laptop and desktop computers.

So far, the card has proven to be fast and reliable. As first I was skeptical about the speed classication of 'class 6' (which means minimum 6MB/S in writing). But my own benchmark showed that this card is actually capable of writing at 11.5MB/S, nearly twice of its specified minimum rate. Just for reference, this card is faster than the Sandisk Ultra II card, which costs a lot more.

Based on my favorable experience, I recently ordered the same package again from TheMemStore. To my surprise, I received only the SD card and no card reader (check my Customer Image to see the two different packages). Another difference I notices is that the first package from Amazon is made in Taiwan, whereas the second one from TheMemStore is made in China. Perhaps this explains why several reviewers have reported poor reliability with this card?

Considering its low cost, this Transcend card is an excellent buy. But please make sure that you order it from a reputable vendor only.

5 out of 5 stars Works as it is supposed to.   October 4, 2008
I bought this card to use in my Canon HF100 video camera and it works flawlessly. In addition, transferring video to the computer is fast and I can even edit video directly from the card with Sony Vegas Pro 8. If you find a good price on this card I suggest buying it.

1 out of 5 stars Beware - Not as described!!   October 3, 2008

While this product works fine, it was not what I purchased! So watch out! What is shown in the photos is a 16GB TRANSCEND SDHC card, in a nice little protective case, PLUS a TRANSCEND SDHC Reader -- packaged together, by Transcend. What I received was a 16 GB Transcend SDHC card by itself -- not even with the case for it!, and some cheap, made-in-China no-name (DigitalMatex?) reader in a separate pack. I feel I paid too much for this card, based on the fact that not only did it not include the shown protective case, but I did not even get the Transcend brand reader that was meant to go with it! Very deceptive. Watch out.

5 out of 5 stars Very Affordable works with Canon PowerShot S3 IS   October 3, 2008
It's really great to have a 16GB SDHC card along with a USB reader at a very affordable price! I've a Canon PowerShot S3 IS camera and so far both the Transcend 16GB SDHC card and the USB reader for the card seem to work fine.

However, both the card and card reader came in separate packages. The USB card reader is made by DigitalMatex (not Transcend) and it seems to be a pretty tight fit for the SDHC card. It scares me to use it too often for the fear of damaging the SDHC card.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely indispensible   September 30, 2008
I got this to supplement the storage on my ASUS Eee-900 PC, which already had 20GB of internal solid-state "disk", only 16GB of which was free, the rest being taken up by Linux and other software.

With solid-state memory, more is always better.
