Good find October 24, 2009 Pauline K Putman I have used other 10 keypads to attach to my laptop and I enjoy this one as it isn't cheap looking but is at a inexpensive price. The last one I had the keys stuck on it as it was incredibly cheap. With this one, I do not have to press down on the keys for it to input into the software I am using.
I would buy this one again!!
USB keypad makes my laptop number friendly October 12, 2009 Stanley Kasperski (Round Rock, Texas USA) It has always been a pain to input numbers on my 15" laptop using the shift key for the Plus, Multiply, Minus and Divide keys. My next laptop will be a 17" just to get the numeric keypad. The Targus USB keypad has large keys and does everything I needed and now I can input math functions and numbers into Quicken and in my spreadsheets. The keypad feels good and looks even better. The only problem I noticed is associated with one of the extra features. Since the keypad itself takes up one of the valuable USB ports, the keypad provides two additional ports. The problem I noticed was that it appears that they are apparently only USB 1.0 instead of USB 2.0. I noticed the much longer time it took while backing up a Quicken database onto a USB flash drive.
mushy keys September 22, 2009 skippy i'm a numbers guy, so i use the 10 key all the time with my laptop at work. i used to have an ibm usb number pad, until our firm upgraded to the targus ones. the targus has mushy keys, so unless i'm looking at the screen, i can't tell if a keystroke has registered. soft keys are supposed to be more ergonomic, but i find it to be the complete opposite. i end up smashing the keypad fairly hard with each keystroke just to be sure the keypad recognizes it. it slows down my typing quite a bit.
on the plus side the slim profile makes it easy to pack for traveling and the backspace key is priceless.
the bottom line: if you're someone that wants to touch type quickly, avoid this keypad at all costs.
Unreliable September 15, 2009 Anonymous (Indianapolis, IN) I am an accountant and have used Targus keypads for years. The one I most recently have used is the PAUK10U. Last week, it randomly started leaving out numbers if I typed too fast. It doesn't matter how deliberate my keystrokes are. I figured maybe it was getting old and just needed to be replaced so I just purchased another and I'm having the same problem. I went to Targus' website to see if there is an updated driver, but the link to their downloads says page not found. After reading similar reviews, I'm thinking it is this product. I'm going to return it and try a different, better rated brand.
Making my job easier April 24, 2009 Z~ I use it almost everyday! It is so much easier to use a USB keypad then it is to use the keypad on a keyboard. You can place it anywhere you want, it is more ergonomic for your wrist and able to have easier access to. If However, if I could change one thing it would be to delete the "000" key and replace it with "00." Targus products have been reliable for me. Great product for a reasonable price.
