Great until your first paper jam November 21, 2009 Todd Finnerty (Columbus, OH) I loved this printer until the first time the paper jammed. It shredded a piece of paper and then you discover you have very little access to get at the paper. I cleaned out the paper as best as possible and for the longest time it still said I had a paper jam, it took over a day of messing with it to eventually clean out all the little pieces of paper that had been shredded inside. You must do this all by hand. Epson's response was essentially to suggest sending the unit back because of a paper jam. I suppose that will be fine unless I get another paper jam after the one year warranty expires. The paper jam issue can lead to frustration on this one, I've had printers that were much easier to reset when you have a paper jam.
Fast Printing but having issues with color printing November 18, 2009 M. Leingang The printer is an office workhorse; however, I have continual problems with lines when printing in color. I have cleaned it and alligned the heads numerous time but the lines in color printing continue. Because of the color issue I give the Epson 610 3 1/2 stars of course Amazon does not allow 1/2 stars. Color is a must.
For what you get with the Epson 610 all-in-one at this price point it is a good deal.
First step was to get this beast on my wifi. This was an easy task. I connected it directly to my router and used my computer to configure the Wifi settings. Thankfully it has WPA support. Once configured I moved it to its permanent location. I have not had any problem with the wifi dropping.
Sending out faxes work great, receiving faxes is a pain. I definitely suggest a line just for faxing. When we would leave the fax on to receive faxes it caused us grief sometime it picked other times it did not.
The scanner works well. The software that comes with the printer is average, You will need better software for OCR.
Making copies is a snap and the top tray can hold a fairly large stack of papers
The printer speeds are great, but I was the back tray would hold more paper.
It has duplex printing but it is a manual process, so I stopped duplexing and started waste more paper.
Photo printing sucks... The quality is not on par with my portable canon printer, so I will continue to use that when I want print a picture at home. Yes you can print color photo on Epson photo paper but you are better off stepping up to the Artisian models
Would I recommend to family and friends? Yes I would, the color printing issue could be due to the fact that mine might be a lemon.
3 strikes and Epson's out November 16, 2009 B. Hayes (Midwest) After reading all of the reviews for all-in-one devices, this seemed to be the one to get. Setup for wireless use was very easy: I had it set up on 3 pc's and one mac with no issues at all. The first unit I had developed a clog in the printer head which Epson diagnosed over the phone, after repeated attempts at cleaning, and so they had to send out a completely new unit. I received the second printer and had to go through the setup on all 4 computers again. One week later, the same issue occurred on the print head. Epson sent out a third unit: guess what........ same problem. I was impressed with Epson's customer service, but on the other hand it seemed too easy, like they know there is a problem with these units. I really wanted this thing to work, because it was very easy to setup (much easier than any HP I have owned). My other complaint is how loud the unit was, crazy loud at printing and scanning. Today I received a canon MX860 from Amazon. That unit was equally as easy to setup, but the big distinction is that the Canon has replaceable printer heads; so if it gets clogged, I don't have to send back the entire unit.
Excellent all-in-one printer November 1, 2009 D. Grauel 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Did a lot of research prior to buying a replacement for my Brother MFC5200C... Was initially hesitant to go with the Epson Workforce 610 due to others' comments about slow print speed, however I am extremely pleased after setting it up and using it. This printer is faster than my Brother was, and I can't imagine needing a printer to work any faster.
Have had the printer for a few days so far, so can't comment on ink usage yet.
Pros:
--Easy setup, to include setting up as a network printer (I went with an ethernet cable connection to my wireless router since it's in the same room). Great to be able to print via the wireless network (was a pain to use the "sneakernet" with USB stick). I followed others advice to download the "combination driver pack" off Epson's website instead of using the installation CD--just follow the printed directions up to the point where it tells you to insert the CD, then run the zip file you got from Epson site. Works great.
--Scanner is fast, and very good for an all-in-one.
--Controls seem easy to use so far.
Cons:
--Nothing significant, although there are some plastic parts that seem like they could break if you are too rough with the equipment (ex. Flip-up stopper on the paper tray). Nothing to be overly concerned about, however.
Bottom line: Very happy with the choice. Highly recommended.
This ink jet printer does it all October 31, 2009 PT Cruiser (CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great printer/fax/copier/scanner machine for your small business. It's also and excellent machine for home use when you want something that does more than just print photos and webpages. The print quality is nice and sharp, like that of a laser printer. I know it's meant mainly for business (which is what I mostly use it for) but I've printed some 8 x 10 photos that are very good and I wouldn't hesitate to use it for that. Can you get better photo printing with a model or brand meant specifically for photos? Yes you can, but you have to be really nit-picky to see a difference. Printers have come so far in the last couple of years that this would have been considered an excellent photo printer just a couple years ago. You'll be hard pressed to see much difference. And the instant-dry DURABrite® Ultra Ink system lets you handle photos right off the printer without worrying about smudging them. You know when you print a photo on plain paper how it kind of gets that wavy effect because it comes off the printer wet? This doesn't do that. The colors look clear and natural.
The only thing I didn't like about this printer was that I had to look over the manual to set it up. The menus weren't intuitive for a non-reader-of-manuals type of person. That's not to say that it was difficult to set up. It just means that if you charge ahead like I usually do, you end up scratching your head and wondering why you can't input things like your network password and get it to "take". Had I looked at the quick start instructions I would have realized that it's a little different than some of the input menus I've seen in the past for other WiFi devices. Setting up a printer isn't rocket science. It's simple and quick if you just read the manual. Once I did that, it found my network right away and I was ready to print in just a few minutes that it took to install the software. I installed it on 3 PC's and a Mac without any problem. I LOVE being able to print over a wireless network, the less wires in the tangled mess under my desk the better!
I haven't set it up yet on a netbook that we just got this week which doesn't have a CD drive. I'm not sure I really need a printer on that but of course I'll try, just because I want to see how it works. I'll post an update when we do connect and tell you how that's accomplished.
The fax and scanner thing work great on this device as does the copier. I've copied a couple photos and the results were excellent. You can print on both sides of a document which is kind of nice if you're doing a brochure or if you just want to save paper on a long print-out. It's easy to restore colors in faded photos, to print without borders or to crop your photos or print in black and white. It's also easy to fax a document or photo. I don't often fax photos because it's easier to email them, but it's nice to know that you can. Actually, there a quite a few fancy features like setting up a speed dial or group dial list for faxing that you may not use a lot, but the feature is there if you need it. Again, check the manual for instructions because the printer has its own way of doing things.
Another nice feature is that you can print directly from a memory card. There are little slots on the printer that accommodate a whole slew of different cards. Just a few are: DD, DDHC, miniSD, miniSDHC, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo and Micro, Magic Gate, xD-Picture Card (who ever heard of all these?) and more. You can then select photos from the little screen that you want to print. Nice feature if you want to print a couple photos without turning on the computer. And you can print a sheet of graph paper right from the printer. How cool is that? How many times have you needed just a sheet or two of graph paper but didn't want to make the pilgrimage to the office supply store?
All in all, this is a great little all-in-one device that does just about everything you'll need to run a small office or have the small office convenience right in your own home. Two thumbs up!
