Disappointed March 1, 2010 Alan Smart A friend and I purchased this product model BES-2100 within minutes of each other. She received a different model - her unit holds up to 100- words in the vocabulary list, whereas my unit holds only 40 wordsl. Upon checking the back of the unit on both models, I noticed that hers had BES-2100N and mine had BES-2100S. I do not understand why we were shipped two different models.

Perfect for me January 21, 2010 JSC (California, United States) I had been concerned by some of the reviews of these devices that it would be impossible to read without a backlight. I have not had any problems. Yes, if using at night you do need a lamp, as you would with a regular dictionary. But I've been really pleased. Very easy to use. Have found the definitions more complete than I anticipated. Extremely portable; I literally just keep it in my purse. Rarely use the audio function but handy to have in a pinch. Wish the personal dictionary parts had greater memory but that's a small quibble.
Full Featured But The Speaking Voice Has Marbles In Her Mouth January 21, 2010 Scott M. Bolton (Eugene, Oregon) I purchased this unit primarily because of its advertised ability to pronounce Spanish words. Maybe there is something wrong with the unit I received but I cannot understand the lady who does the talking - even using the earbuds she is unintelligible when speaking most of the Spanish words. Other than this serious weakness, the unit is full featured and would stand as an excellent translator but for the approximately $40 premium for the speech feature.
I am returning the unit.
Franklin Speaking Spanish - English Dictionary January 9, 2010 David R. Krumboltz Great product. I would absolutely love it if the speaking part of the device spoke slower for better understanding and learning.
My Wife Loves It October 28, 2009 Kirth Gersen 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this for my wife, who needed it primarily for an aid in her intermediate Spanish classes. A such, she needed conjugations and grammar in addition to dictionary functionality.
She loves the device, so I have rated it 5 stars. I found the interface to be a little dated, but on-par with other offerings. I was able to pick up the unit and use it immediately without reading the directions, so I would still consider it to be intuitive.
The tilt-screen is nice as it helps to reduce glare and protect the keyboard. It would be nice if the screen was backlit, but this feature seems to be lacking in translators in general.
Overall, a solid purchase with an excellent feature set.
