great with a caveat November 15, 2009

I use backpacks a lot, as I routinely ride my bike to work and need to carry: my laptop, work papers, and wallet checkbook etc. I also change clothes when I get to my office, so I carry a change of clothes as well.
Overall I like this bag a lot.
Pros:
The bag is excellent quality: it feels very sturdy, it is well balanced, and has really cleverly designed pockets and separations. I can carry all these items without the bag getting too bulky, and there are enough separations that my clothes don't get tangled up in my wallet etc. I also like how it looks, and I like the brand (I've always liked Swiss Army knives, and love my old Wenger watch.)
Cons:
There are a couple of design issues I have with this bag the made me give it 4 stars rather than 5.
The main problem is this: the handle at the top of the bag is not placed well, and if you are not careful, it can cost you your laptop. Here's why: the handle is placed too far to the front of the bag. This means that if you hang your bag on a hook or coat rack for any reason, and if the bag is full, the bag could slip off the hook, because the distance from the back of the bag and the handle it too big. The bag doesn't need to be extremely full for this to happen, simply having your laptop in a sleeve in the laptop compartment will do this. And that's exactly what you don't want to have inside your backpack if the backpack falls off a hook onto the floor. You might think "why would I want to hang my backpack on a hook if it's full?" Imagine you're in an airport and want to hang your backpack on the hook of the bathroom door. It would not make for a happy trip... You don't want your laptop in this bag if the bag falls down.
The second problem I have, less serious more of a nuisance, is that the back and front compartments of the bag are not completely separated, on the bottom of the bag items can slip from one compartment to the next. This means that sometimes you're fumbling to find an item in one compartment and it turns out it has slipped to the other compartment.
Overall this is a very nice bag, sturdy, well designed, comfortable to wear. Just be careful with hanging the bag on a hook...

For the price, this bag is a steal. Real good quality and tremendousy spacious.
I notice that people have received a different bag than the one pictured here, but I got the one exactly like the one in the picture.
Only hiccup for me - the key holder in the front pocket has a key ring where you slip in your keys. But the ring itself is a little annoying to remove and slap on back, but I can sure live wth that.

This backpack has several compartments. The outer most one on the front is about8 1/2 inches H x 7 1/2 W x 1 1/2 inches in depth. Inside this are 4 pockets and a keyring. The compartment is designed to up what might be found in your shirt or pants pockets. It does not unzip flat as the zipper starts and ends about 3 inches from the bottom. Immediately of this compartment is what I'll call a cover strap. It is about 5 inches wide and comes open with two plastic clips. A common use would probably be to strap on a light sweather or outer wear to keep from holding it in your hand. Both the above cover strap and outer pocket on part and parcel of the front of the "file" pocket which unzips to about 3 inches from its bottom. This pocket covers the entire heighth and width of the backpack. It measures approximately 16 inches H x 15 inches W x 5 1/2 deep at its deepest. Their are 3 separate flat pockets within - a 6 inch high mesh pocket on the inside cover, a 7 inch high pocket on the lower part of the back and a "Media" pocket flap sewn on top of the back. It is designed to hold a media player of some sort and has a cord hole to thread your earbuds through. The Laptop compartment is the main one, its backside is the back of the backpack and its cover consists of the previous mentioned compartments. It is a big bigger than the File pocket but is padded and not quite as deep. It is divided into 2 main sections, one to hold your laptop and the other, maybe a 2inch 3 ring binder. I actually put 2 laptops in mine. There is a long tapered pocket on each side of the backpack. They look like they each could hold a small water bottle. One of them has a small coin pocket inside. Both have eyelets which can be used for tying something to the outside of the backpack (or maybe they're air vents). There are is a mesh pocket on each of these which can hold a water bottle. That's it for the compartments. The back straps are wide and comfortable, one has a cell phone holder attached. There is also a basic waist strap. It is a good backpack. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars since I am bit of a tight wad and found the regular price to be too much. Fortunately, I was able to get it as the Deal of the Day for more than half off. I am glad I bought it and would do so again.

I got this bag in Amazon's "today's deals" and I must say for 30 bucks it's a steal..!! I was a bit skeptic about it, since few reviews say that the bag in the picture is not what they actually get. But I got one looking exactly like the pic. Sturdy built quality, nice pockets and all. Only complain could be that it doesn't fully house my 16" widescreen laptop, but even then it provides enough protection. And it looks real cool. Overall, a fivestar.

Even after all those previous reviews, and the note saying that the product information was now correct... it still is inaccurate! The tag that comes with it says 15", and if you look at the measurements (14"x10.5"x2") listed online, they would also indicate a 15", not 17" laptop. Get on the ball, Amazon!
