 Good burner, fragile construction. November 23, 2009

This little burner hasn't failed yet; however, the construction is very fragile. It easily tips forward when the drive opens. The drive door opens only partially and you have to "help" it the rest of the way. It feels like it could easily break, in any number of ways, if you don't handle it carefully. It's a slow speed burner, but that's okay with me.

Nice and small. Uses 2 of your USB ports to ensure enough power. Reads and writes fast enough. Good for the road trips I take. Only flaw is the stand could break easily if left attached when traveling in a suitcase.

Asus USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive fit my situation perfectly. I needed an external optical drive to install OSes, applications and watch movies (when I'm at the marina chillin')for our family's 2 netbooks (Asus Eee Pc 900 and the 1000HA). Asus drive is set up to require 2 USB ports for optimal operation, however, it works with just one USB cable connected. The included drive stand is a plus because it allows for vertical orientation of the unit.
The unit is white with Asus logo on top. Quality act (size of a paperback book), good work, great user experience. I would recommend this product for netbook users who need a reasonable cost external optical drive. 5 stars

Not much to say, except that it works exactly as intended, is light, portable and seems to be well-constructed. Oh, and it runs with only one USB cable connected, which is nice. Bought it to go with my ASUS 1005HA, and I am very pleased with this drive.

I have an Asus eee netbook that was destroyed by a virus. I couldn't use the hidden restore partition included in my netbook, because absolutely everything was wiped out. I bought this optical drive out of desperation, in order to run the restore software DVD included with my netbook. This optical drive worked perfectly for that purpose, and I'm very impressed with its quality. I just thought I'd leave a review in case there is someone out there looking for a means to restore their netbook to its normal state, after a virus attack, etc. THIS is your answer!
