| | | DVD+R: Quality Media Storage DVD+R is a Write-Once format with a storage lifetime intended for storing videos and archiving important business or personal data. Compared with CD-Rs, DVD+Rs offer more storage space and faster write times, making them a natural choice for preserving media and other large files. Each AmazonBasics DVD+R disk can record up to two hours of DVD+quality video programming. A single DVD+R can also hold three hours of VHS-quality video or more than 60 hours of MP3 audio. DVD-R Compatibility There are two types of recordable DVD disks available. Almost all recent DVD players and drives can handle both burned DVD-R and DVD+R disks, but some older players can only read one format or the other. It is important to check your player's manual to determine which DVD type it supports. 16X Write Speed and Organic Dye: Built for Fast, Accurate, Quality Writing AmazonBasics DVD+R disks enable fast write speeds from 2.4X to 16X for quick, clean data transfer. (To take full advantage of these speeds, your DVD burner must burn at speeds of at least 16X. Consult your computer or DVD burner product manual for this information.) A 16X transfer speed translates to 21.60 MB/s, which means that you can burn a full disk in less than four minutes. The organic dye used on the write side of these DVD+Rs provides stable writing at high speeds for reliable, accurate finished disks. AmazonBasics: Quality Products at Low Prices AmazonBasics is a collection of consumer electronic "basics" created by combining quality and low prices for an overall focus on value. The packaging is designed to be opened without the use of a box cutter or knife, and it will protect your product just as well as traditional packaging. Products with Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging can frequently be shipped in their own boxes, without an additional shipping box, saving on resources and reducing waste. Amazon Basics - The perfect solution to Expensive Writable Media November 15, 2009 Well, BLEEP You Too (A Southern Californian Forced into Washinton state) Come on now, Under 21 ($20.66 as I type this review) bucks for 100 Blank DVD+R discs that work just as good if not even better than some leading brands such as Maxell, Memorex and Sony. Come on now, a 50 pack of the leading brand retails from anywhere fron $15 to $20
And with Amazon Basics, you're getting twice as much, With the same quality for around the same price.
What more can you ask for? If you're going to order Blank DVD-r/DVD+R from amazon anyways, Go with these AmazonBasics. You get more for you money and you get top quality. I like
Dependable 4X November 14, 2009 Ronny Ong (Dallas, TX USA) I have had 100% success burning both data and video formats with this media at 4X using:
Sony Optiarc AD-7170A (firmware version 1.O4 supports this media at 4X, 6X, 8X, 12X, 16X)
Plextor PX-708A (firmware 1.11 supports this media at 2.4X, 4X, 8X)
LG GSA-T11N (firmware A104 supports this media at 4X only but can do 8X with other comparable media)
NEC ND-3500AG (firmware 2.TB supports this media at 2.4X, 4X but can do 8X with other comparable media)
As you can see, some of my older drives won't support faster than 4X with this media. I'm a little surprised that my oldest (the Plextor) would support 8X, but I haven't bothered to try anything faster than 4X on any drive because I'm rarely in that much of a hurry.
My burns are generally more than 90% of disc capacity so I am almost always using most of the recordable surface. My success criteria is not just an error-free burn; I have verified several discs by reading them at max speed (on a different drive than the burner) and comparing against the original source.
For me, these are a great value. For people who prefer wider 8X and 16X compatibility, these are probably not a good choice.
A frequent recorder. November 13, 2009 M. Cummings (Austin, TX United States) I have used many different DVD+R disks and find that this one is as good as any that I have used. The cost makes it even better.
RobertsPics November 11, 2009 Roberts Pics (Massachusetts) The package came very quick. The disc package is tricky to open. Unfortunately the recording speed is the slowest I have ever used it only records at 4X speed instead of the package saying 16X speed. Sony DVD have been the only ones that run at 16X, most run at 12X or 8X. If you want fast down loads try another brand. Amazon is very good with their service, very fast. I will use them for more things but not thier DVD's.
Reasonable Quality But AMazon Needs To Remove Disc Labels November 6, 2009 M. Rogers (Dublin, Ireland) These are reasonable quality (My ADIP was AML-003-00) and produce low error rates (PIE/C2 etc, see: [...] in a Samsung S223Q (you know, one of the few DVD writers that can burn the cheap Memorex DVD+R DL discs effortlessly and without errors), with a smooth transfer test playback that scales linearly right up to 19X on the outer edge with no dropouts or retries. HOWEVER, in a weird throwback to the early part of this decade, Amazon ships each disk with not one but two relatively huge blocks of text printed on each disc: "Amazon Basics" with the swoosh thing, and "DVD+R 4.7GBG0 16X 120min RWDVD+R"). Pretty much all good quality discs that are not $1 store cake box items tend to use a slightly opaque printed overlay with a stencilled area spelling out these no doubt essential pieces of information on every single disc. This means that you can write anywhere on the surface of the disc without the redundant text getting in the way. Maybe to save costs, Amazon's discs have no opaque surface layer, the DVD is raw (and thus very shiny and reflective), and a big percentage of the writable surface is occupied with the pointless text outlined above. With just a little change to make the discs less ugly, Amazon would get five stars from me but I am reducing it to 3three for the bad design implementation.
