I am extremely satisfied with this GPS system! I have had others in the past and was not happy with any of them. The voice activation was poor, the visibility poor, and the GPS would often recalculate the trip when I didn't ask it to. Even my wife can figure out how to use it!

This is our third in a line of Garmin Nuvi units, the others being a 660 and a 765. Both of our previous units performed very well in audible directions as well as audible Blue Tooth connections. This unit, especially when using it with a paired BT phone, is so inaudible as to be unusable. Even parked in a quiet spot the speaker is so low that you have to strain to hear the conversation. I called tech support and the Garmin tech acknowledged that the low volume was by design because of the associated voice command module. The model has also randomly rebooted and not always at the best time. There are some excellent features when using the NAV unit making it the favorite for navigation. I just wish Garmin would do something about the low volume issue!

I really wanted to like this after paying more than $500 on Amazon in April 2009. I got it for the snazzy features. But my old Nuvi 350 was more reliable. Since this is still for sale I decided to post this review. Lots of little irritants add up to make me dislike this unit.
Pros: Nice wide bright screen.
Cons:
-- On/off button on top is a slider that has no tactile feel. It is hard to tell if you have effectively used it.
-- One battery has already died. Battery life is bad -- even discharges in less than 7 days left completely off.
-- Once the battery is dead/low the unit sits there blank, even when connected to the car power. It apparently has to charge the battery to some degree before it will start. It sits there as though it is completely dead for a few minutes sometimes.
-- The touchscreen is slow to respond. You poke it and nothing happens so you are not sure if you poked ok or not. So you poke again. Sometimes it really does take multiple pokes. Irritating and not too safe while driving.
-- The ability to create routes is nice, except (someone correct me if this is wrong) that the estimated time of arrival is set for your FINAL destination, not your interim destination. If I have a trip 3 days out I know it will take me 3 days. I want to know when I will arrive at my destination for the night. So I stopped using the route feature.
-- The connection to the satellites sputters. If you care about the MIN and MAX speeds feature, this unit renders them useless. I have been driving in forest, cities and deserts without an obstruction in site and seen the unit record all sorts of odd speeds -- 29mph when I am going 55, or maybe 88mph when I am going 65. This happens with some regularity.
-- The voice system in theory is good and the recognition is impressive with no training. But as others have pointed out it does not work in some places such as entering numbers. Worse is that unless you have a really quiet car you have to bellow at it to make it work if there is much road noise. My 2004 RAV4 is too noisy on certain roads/speeds. I have quit using the feature.
-- Note the fine print that the MSN supported traffic etc expires in 2012. In the meantime they have not improved the services.
-- The speakers are not loud enough for me to listen to audio books while on the road. Same goes for the Bluetooth link to my cellphone -- necessary in CA where talking on phone while driving is illegal if you hold the handset.
There may be other irritants I have forgotten but you get the idea. I paid a lot for features I have quit using. Essentially I use it like my old 350.

The 885T had all the features I was looking for in a GPS, like being able to save multiple routes, voice recognition, Text-To-Speech, announces street names, etc. Unfortunately, the voice recognition does not work very well. If you are sitting still (with zero road noise) and no noises in the vehicle, the 885T will get your voice instructions right 50% of the time, at best. This feature was the item that made me decide on buying this GPS, but it will only work right about 10% of the time when I am traveling down the road, so this feature is pretty much useless. I had read some reviews about the volume being too low on this GPS, and other reviews that stated the volume was OK. Well, my unit had very low volume. It was difficult to hear with the volume set at 100%. The GPS also gave me some incorrect route instructions a few times. Because of these flaws in the 885T, I have returned the GPS.
