Quite pleased with this camera November 24, 2009 kre8iv1 (Flemington, NJ) I had no idea this camera had over 800 reviews ... WHEW!
I'll keep it short and sweet.
It kicks the Kodak digital we used to have right in the butt.
I bought this as our second digital camera because I wanted more control over the settings.
I can use this camera inside WITHOUT flash (ISO1600 setting). No other camera in this class offers the ISO1600 setting.
I can turn the "shutter" sound and the beeps off. (very useful in theater shows that my husband performs in)
The picture quality is awesome.
It is lightweight and small enough to keep with me (shirt pocket, or purse).
The LCD screen is a nice size.
The image stabilization has ended my blurry photo tendency.
The flash takes forever to re-charge, and it eats batteries like breath mints - that's the worst of it.
I checked Amazon, CNet, NewEgg, and Consumer Reports. All research led here, and I am very satisfied with this camera.
Disappointed November 21, 2009 B. Deng (Lincoln, NE)
The hard drive failed in a year. The camera cannot be found by computers, making uploading almost impossible. I also bought a replacement plan which made me to pay the shipping, unbelievable.
excellent camera November 19, 2009 Jennifer Mason (Delaware) We did a lot of homework before buying this camera, and we haven't been disappointed with our choice. It is easy to use on the auto settings, giving very clear pictures. A nice feature is compatibility with old DSL lenses.
Good starter digitial camera November 18, 2009 G. Trask I like this camera a lot. I have taken so many pictures and I am still learning and experimenting. I am new to digital and actually got this with a gift certificate. I would never go back to my 35mm now. I had several people tell me that Canon is an excellent lower end camera and I agree. The Powershot A590IS got great reviews on the tech sites on the internet. I especially like using the night feature. I got some great winter shots when it was snowing. Great pictures. If you are just starting or just want a great lower end camera, I would recommend this one. The Canon website has a lot of instructional information besides what comes with the camera. It has everything but the bag and I purchase that separately. I bought a Tamrac bag which I also highly recommend.
Very disappointed November 9, 2009 S. Moss (Missouri) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this camera as an upgrade to my old PowerShot A520. With my old camera it was really hard to take a bad picture, so when I started having problems I decided to upgrade just in time for vacation. I am a typical occational camera user, vacations, special occations, a pretty day etc. With my old camera I only used minimal settings, portrait, movement, night, nothing fancy. Since this camera looked similar, I thought they would perform similar....boy was I wrong.
The picture quality is horrible. I was shocked when I came back and more than 90% of my vacation pictues were grainy. I tried to take some pictures in a night club, I changed my settings several times and never did get a clear picture. This weekend was my son's birthday party and I had the setting on kids and pets. I tried to get some pictures of him and his friends driving goKarts, all of them were blurry until they stopped moving??? The rest of the pictures, what a surprise, came out grainy. I got out the user manual and basically found out if the situation is this, change the settings to this, this and that. If the situation is this, then change the settings again, and again, and again. This is way to complicated. I don't want to spend 10 minutes adjusting the camera setting every time I want to take another picture. Time is up on this camera. I am looking for something else. I am extremley disappointed in this model.
