The AS890C has no problems with paper clips, staples, and credit cards. | Cross-cut Shredding for Better Security Whether you're disposing of financial statements, personal information, or junk mail, this shredder's cross-cut technology offers high-security protection. Insert as many as eight pages into the 8.7-inch entry slot and watch through the viewing window as the paper is quickly sliced across and down into 1/5 inch scraps. Even if your documents are folded in half or riddled with staples, the stainless steel blades will quickly shred your documents so that you can dispose of them safely. Perfect Size for Home or Small Office The shredder's black color and moderate size (12 x 7 x 16 inches) make it a tasteful and practical addition to a small home or office space. A 59-inch power cord allows you to store it far from power outlets. When the time comes to empty the attached wastebasket, a full-bag indicator light will alert you. But with a 125-sheet-capacity wastebasket, you won't need to empty it often. For maximum convenience, you can simply leave the shredder in auto start mode. Each time paper is inserted, a sensor will activate the blades. If more than eight pages are inserted at a time, the manual reverse mode can come in handy to clear a temporary paper jam. In case of heavy use, the shredder also features thermal overload protection to keep the unit from overheating. What's in the Box Aurora 8 Sheet Crosscut Shredder with Basket.

good security for a low price November 18, 2009 B. Sheridan (Chicago) Got rid of my last shredder after many years of good use. Wanted something that would shred a bit better, in something other than strips, for better security. This met the bill and did it without costing an arm and a leg. Good shredder. The only issue I've had, which I have with all home shredders is that you can only do maybe 3-4 sheets at a time, before it starts getting a bit slow and strained. Says it will do 8, and probably will, but in my opinion you're better off with about half that.
Basket easily empties shredded content into a paper bag, which can be easily recycled or used to safely pack something.
With all the junk mail I get, as well as all the bank statements and stock stuff in the mail, I feel this is a good way to protect against identity theft and watch my personal privacy.
Effective and noisy November 15, 2009 J. M. Orr (Fresno, CA) I got this for its low price. It seems to work well, though each page over one slows the machine. Close to 8 pages and it nearly stops. I did manage to shred about 400 pages in a row before the motor overheated and turned the machine off. Shredding even one page is noisy, though. Close to 7 pages and there is noticeable drag on the motor--but it chews its way through to the e e n n d d. Shredding one credit card at a time is a small inconvenience for the price, and one does wish for more power.
It doesn't cost a lot, and it fits my needs well. November 15, 2009 M. Cullen (USA) It's really a nice shredder for home use. I'm usually shredding personal papers at home, not a load of papers at an office, and it suits my needs well. It's really quite good for for the price.
Eight sheets? Yeah, right. November 14, 2009 Maylevaih (Missouri, USA) The shredder can only handle three sheets of paper, with difficulty, and sometimes it just quits running at all.
happy with our as890c November 13, 2009 Michael L. Piazza (Louisiana) we've been putting off getting a shredder. i did a on line search and decided on the Aurora as890c unit. this machine will do the job with paper shredding. i don't push it by putting more than 2 sheets at a time, it handles them easily. i haven't tried a credit card yet so i cant comment on that. i would recommend this shredder for those who are using it for household needs.
