| Customer Reviews: Functions like a 10 key without the paper... September 18, 2009 C. Lindsey (Springtown, TX United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I just needed an inexpensive calculator to keep next to my computer. I've purchased a couple of the large black ones from the dollar store that are $5-6, and I believe that the last large display calculator I bought died after about four year. So, not wanting to schlep to the DG, I found this on Amazon for about $12, Prime shipping, no tax. Well, I haven't used it much yet, but I do like the way it looks and feels. I wanted an oversized one, rather than a pocket calculator, so it wouldn't disappear. This is about 6x7 inches, so imagine a 5x7 photo frame, and widen it a bit to get an idea of the size of this. I have really long fingers, and the buttons are comfortably located, with a bit of space between. There is a slightly upraised circle on the numeral 5 so you can orient your fingers without looking, just like a real 10 key. It has 12 digit display, and a the switch to move your decimal too; I love that. Oh, and a 5/4 button to automatically round up or down. Ah, for any statisticians reading this: There is a mu key, for whatever that does;) Two other functions I don't know about yet are the MRC and GT keys. Of course M- and M+ are memory keys, not that I've ever used them either, but you might!
It is solar, so you don't have to buy batteries, and it works out of the packaging. It works fine by the light of my desk lamp. The keys felt a bit stiff at first, but as I adjusted the decimal and played around with it, they feel solid and are raised enough that you know you've hit bottom and the information is in there. The XE120 is attractive, feels twice as solidly built as the dollar store versions, and is twice as attractive. The display is large, and easy to read, but it doesn't tilt like the ones I've had previously which is fine with me. The screen is gently rounded, and it looks nice sitting on the desk. Sadly, it is made in China...but sometimes you can't tell on here...All in all, I like it alot, I would purchase it again, and I would recommend it to my friends.
