Amazon.com Product Description
Canon's heavy-duty MP25D desktop printing calculator is an indispensable tool for demanding offices, providing a range of functions for quick math calculations and figuring finances. You have two ways to review your calculations--the large display or the two-color printout. A 12-character display and special function keys will also increase your accuracy.

The MP25D's function keys include markup/markdown, delta percent, grand total, multiple decimal point positions, item count, and non-add print. The numeral keys are large and easy to read, and you can keep running totals as you enter data. Use the rounding function to automatically round your results up, down, or off by a specified number of digits. Calculate taxes with a prestored tax rate. The MP25D provides all the basics of calculation: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, constant multiplication, division and percentage calculations, percentage add-on, and discount calculations.

A two-color printer produces crisp characters, with negative numbers appearing in red and positive in black. The Canon MP25D desktop printing calculator is designed to print on standard 2-1/4-inch rolls of plain paper at 3.6 lines per second. You can switch printing off to conserve ink.

I love the fact that it is not as loud as a lot of them and it prints clearly. Having the date and time on it is great for your records.

5 out of 5 stars Solid performer: Intuitive, Quiet, Fast, Features you'll use   October 9, 2008

The Canon MP25DV is an excellent traditional calculator that works as fast as you do. The keyboard layout places the keys you use most exactly where you expect them to be, in easy reach, and with its soft positive touch you won't be wearing out your hand pounding on them. The lighted blue-green display is clear and easy to read as is the crisp black and red print on the standard size paper tape printout. The characters print a line at a time so you won't find yourself waiting for the calculator to finish printing your figures one digit at a time.

I particularly like the tax functions which use the tax rate I preset in memory to calculate the tax and combined total (or pre-tax amount) on any sale price I type using only a single keystroke. I had to get used to the fact that this machine actually prints the tax rate on the tape directly in line with the figures I will be transferring to my invoices, but at least it does verify the tax rate it is using in its calculations. Because of this I have to be pay careful attention when selecting the printed results I want to transcribe.

The date and time functions are convenient for dating the register tape and also serve as a clock / calendar on your desk when not in use. There is a battery backup so you do not need to reset them if you lose power. But the battery compartment is hidden by the quick reference guide pull out on the bottom of the calculator. Extend this guide and you may access the battery compartment by removing a small phillips head screw. When purchased new, there is an insulating strip inserted in the battery well to prevent premature battery discharge, simply remove this strip so the included battery may do its job.

Many will find the Cost, Sell and Margin buttons quite useful, though I prefer to simply type in the calculations I desire. The footprint of this calculator is slightly larger than some others, but I think you will not mind making room for it on your desk.

One note to those used to the plethera of scientific calculators out there. This type calculator requires the use of the addition (+) key and the subtraction (-) key after typing each item you want to add or subtract (including the last item on your list) and then do not forget to use the total (*) key after the last item (even though the total does display on the readout). Failure to do so not only means the total will not be printed on the paper tape (if you are in the print mode) but also may affect the next set of numbers you want to input (unless you actually clear the memory before calculating each set of numbers). Also, you can raise the power of a number (to its square, cube, etc.) by repeatedly multiplying by the same factor using the multiplication (X) key, but be prepared to spend an inordinate amount of time manually calculating the root of that number if you desire it. Scientific calculators and computers frequently provide for these and many other functions but this machine does not.

5 out of 5 stars I bought it again   October 22, 2007

This calculator is essentially the same as one we bought five years ago and loved .. if repair work wasn't so expensive, we'd still have it, as it was working fine except for the on-off switch. And in our house, the calculator gets moved (and sometimes dropped) a lot.

5 out of 5 stars Always liked having an adding machine on my desk   April 8, 2007

I can't explain why, but I've always been fascinated by these machines. Well, fascination may be a bit strong, but I've liked them and usually kept one handy when I could. Most of them were handed down to me by my Dad (starting when I was young, with a real old clunker from his work that was fun to play with), who's also sort of a junkie in this area. I even tried the tapeless model once and hated it.

While I'm not sure I even use the machine enough to justify this exact model, I recently bought a lower level Canon machine and didn't like it. The machine worked fine, but the printing was so slow, it was painful. Not that I'm THAT impatient, but it was just irritating, given my experience with these machines. The printing on this machine is pretty fast. It may be outclassed by the higher end ones, but this is sufficient for 90% or more of you out there. It prints negative in red, has the item list (gives a line total of what you added for easy averaging), and has the clock and date feature which is cool if you need a dated paper trail. Plus, the tape load is the best I've ever seen. Took a few seconds even when I don't think I put it in there straight.

I bought this machine (or an earlier model) several years ago for an organization I was a director of. I used it there and like it a lot. After leaving the organization, I've made due with a smaller solar calculator. Part of the reason, I think, is my desk wasn't clear enough to put a machine on there. Good old Dad gave me one of his, but the printing got screwed up on it, making it useless. So, after buying the cheaper model discussed above, I took it back and got this one, knowing it would function with all the horsepower I need. It does.
