Product Description
Some bonds can never be broken... Addie Downs and Valerie Adler will be best friends forever. That's what Addie believes after Valerie moves across the street when they're both nine years old. But in the wake of betrayal during their teenage years, Val is swept into the popular crowd, while mousy, sullen Addie becomes her school's scapegoat. Flash-forward fifteen years. Valerie Adler has found a measure of fame and fortune working as the weathergirl at the local TV station. Addie Downs lives alone in her parents' house in their small hometown of Pleasant Ridge, Illinois, caring for a troubled brother and trying to meet Prince Charming on the Internet. She's just returned from Bad Date #6 when she opens her door to find her long-gone best friend standing there, a terrified look on her face and blood on the sleeve of her coat. "Something horrible has happened," Val tells Addie, "and you're the only one who can help." Best Friends Forever is a grand, hilarious, edge-of-your-seat adventure; a story about betrayal and loyalty, family history and small-town secrets. It's about living through tragedy, finding love where you least expect it, and the ties that keep best friends together. Compact Disk Includes a bonus MP3 CD of Jennifer Weiner's Little Earthquakes!

Say what? November 21, 2009 JerseyGirl (Charlotte, NC) I kept rolling my eyes and saying to myself..."SAY WHAT"?
First of all the character of Valerie who shows up on Addie's doorstep and wants to go back to being best friends after fifteen years of absenteeism and after having really messed Addie over in high school, nope doesn't work for me.
Next Addie just throws her entire life over and goes for a joyride to Key West after said "friend" waltzes back into her life. Does not work for me again.
The two "friends" go to a bank where Addie withdraws ten thousand dollars of spending money for a trip to Key West and Valerie does not pay for anything. Nope still not working for me.
Valerie attempts to rob the bank teller when Addie makes the withdrawal. Then out of the goodness of her heart, Addie leaves $2000 for the bank teller since the bank teller says it is okay to rob her if Addie gives her $2000. Seriously flawed. In reality, everybody would have been arrested.
I can go on and on. The police detective who enters Addie's house without a warrant and meanders through the house smelling her clothing?????? Oh puhlllllllease.
Last but not least, do we really have to know how many times the police detective masturbates and to top it off how he masturbates and then cleans up after himself? Give me a break.
I could go on and on. Yes there is more that makes the book totally unrealistic.
The ending was abrupt and again I raised my eyebrows and said, "HUH"? Don't spend good money on this unless you are such a fan of Jennifer Weiner that you can't help yourself.
Not a believable story. November 19, 2009 Diane (Newfoundland, Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have read several of Jennifer Weiner's books, but I just didn't like this one. The story is about two best friends, Valerie and Addie, who end up growing apart after a disasterous night out when they are in high school. We see the girls as young friends and we learn how their home environments end up shaping their lives. Unfortunately, I found the character development to be flat. I didn't like Val's character at all. She used people and then reconnected with Addie again years later just because she was in trouble and once again needed help.
I found their Thelma and Louise like road trip to be lame as well. It just didn't jive with the story. The ending with the quick romance was not believable either and the character of Jordan, the cop, was truly a messed up one. I usually like Jennifer Weiner's humor as well, but for me, this story wasn't her best written one.
Disapointed November 14, 2009 U. Austin (San Diego, Ca) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read her other books, "in her shoes" and also "little earthquakes" and loved them. This book lacked a lot of character depth. It was boring and not very creative.
Repetitious November 8, 2009 Ellen (Payson, Az) I have read quite of few of Jennifer Weiner's books and this one tries to achieve her popularity of Good in Bed but I think it fails. Her humor is either sad (so fat she can't get out of a resturant booth) or just stupid, (masturbating in front of a kiddie show). We want our heroine to end up with a fairly good character, not a flawed one. Perhaps Mrs. Weiner needs to develop new characters, with new proplems and forget about trying to be funny.
Fun Story of Friendship November 5, 2009 Beth (USA) I really enjoyed this book. It was fun, light and quirky. This book has it all, mystery, family and most of all friendship. All the twist and turns all three take kept me reading almost nonstop. In the very beginning a crime is committed and it drew me in. I had to know why it happened and who did it. Then Jennifer tells us the history of Valerie and Addie's friendship, first as young girls, then as teenagers and now as adults. Boy the high school years sure brought back memories. I felt like I was right there again but this time I was with Addie and Valerie. Now as adults after a high school reunion Valerie shows up on Addie's doorstep in trouble. The two go on the lam even though they have been estranged since high school. The book takes on a very Thelma and Louise feel but in a fun way. I really hated Valerie at times. She seemed like trouble to me. Then I would feel sorry for her because I don't think she could really help it due to her strange upbringing. I felt much compassion for Addie who overcame so much in her life. She grew from a shy, weak girl to a strong woman. This was a great story of friendship and the bumps it takes along the way. I will be looking to read more of Jennifer Weiner's books.
