| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Forest Health and Protection by Edmonds, Agee, and Gara is a new text dedicated to integrating the three areas of Fire, Insects and Diseases into one text within the context of applied forest protection, (ecology, forest health and ecosystem management). The authors felt this new, integrated approach closely followed the new path of modern forest management which has embraced the concept of ecosystem management, as well as a new course that is emerging across campuses. Forest Health and Protection, allows instructors to take students from many areas of study including forestry, natural resources, and conservation - through a one semester course integrating fire, insects and diseases. Ideally students will have some knowledge of forest ecology, if not, there is a brief introduction to ecological principles in the introductory chapters.

A nice primer April 21, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a softcover reissue of a hardcover text put out previously by McGraw Hill. The content is unchanged, but students will be happy that it's about half the price of the original. It appears tightly bound, durable. The paper is thicker and coarser and so the photos have lost some detail, mostly more contrast and darker. Otherwise I'm very pleased with it. I've been using the previous edition for the past four years as the text for my Forest Protection class at Humboldt State University and I find it's a great overview of wildland fire, forest entomology, and forest pathology. The section on animal damage is deficient, extremely small, and requires supplemental material. Otherwise it's a great desktop reference, good coverage of the material by knowledgable authors, and you cannot beat the value.
Excellent book May 23, 2000 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Forest Health and Protection is an excellent book which include an actual vision the three aspects very important in forest ecosystems. It is a contribution in the forest protection.
