Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This book aims to teach pupils about computing entirely through applications. Thus it avoids much technical detail and instead concentrates on solving problems efficiently and effectively using computers. It is a coursebook which offers a spiral approach to learning and so lets pupils see aspects of computing in a variety of contexts. Each encounter with a topic reinforces the understanding of that topic. The book is divided into six chapters each of which uses a realistic situation as a vehicle for introducing or reinforcing computing concepts. The situations as a vehicle for introducing or reinforcing computing concepts. The situation are brought to life by following certain Characters and looking at their jobs, their homelives, the decisions they make and the outcomes of those decisions. A large number of questions within and at the end of each chapter encourage pupils to discuss and investigate the topics and to solve problems presented to them. It is intended that the book is used in the classroom by the teacher as a stimulus for study and activity. Many of the questions are provocative and open-ended thus requiring the full involvement of the teacher but at the same time giving pupils of all ability the chance to participate in the subject.
